donno Rough Rock Total Posts: 3 Last Post: 10/21/2008 Member Since: 10/20/2008	Hi everyone, i just recently got engaged and found this forum while doing my "due diligence" on researching an e-ring for my lady. We went out to the mall last weekend and were clearly unimpressed and am going to be getting with a local jeweler this week to get a little better service. She wants a 1.5tw 3 stone ring in yellow gold (with white gold prongs). I have seen a few loose diamonds and we are happy with the H/I, SI1/2, VG cuts that we saw. If we went with say a center diamond of ~.7 and sides of .4 each do you think we are being realistic to try and get the ring around 3k? we just want something sparkly and nice, we don't really care about if it is "perfect" under a scope or not. oh and we ran into this looking online yesterday, seems to be a real business with a reasonable return policy but the price just seems to be a little "too" good.. thoughts? http://stores.diamondten.com/Items/adf%20-%2000402?&caSKU=adf%20-%2000402&caTitle=Round%20Brilliant%201.55ct%20Diamond%203%20Stone%2014K%20Gold%20Engagement%20Ring thanks so much for your time

Too many unknowns with the ring you linked, possible variations with the cut quality so you have no way of knowing if the diamonds are eyeclean or will sparkle. JulieN Ideal Rock Total Posts: 7,148 Last Post: 11/23/2009 Member Since: 7/25/2005	I've been a fan of small sides ever since one PSer posted something like a 1.17 with .13 sides (or something like that... it was definitely 1 ct+ with sides around .15 cts.) Area of 1 ct/ Area of .25 ct= 2.6 Area of .7 ct (5.7 mm)/Area of .4 cts (4.7 mm)=1.5 I'd probably shoot for about a 2:1 ratio of area if you like the larger look, and is probably a good balance/classic look. If you went with a 6 mm center, you'd get 4.2 mm sides, which is probably .75-.80 cts with about 1/3 ct sides. If working with an internet vendor, they will generally take pictures side by side for you/have models to show you before casting your ring. With a B&M jeweler, you will get to see them side by side.
