Shout out to my fellow Torontonians - Mellisa Sweet is having a trunk show at Pearl Bridal House on November 8th and 9th, and POB is having one on November 15th and 16th. Both shows are by appointment only.

I've been trying all day to get in touch with someone to ask that very question. I just left a voicemail message and as soon as I hear back from them I'll let you know.

I had no idea about the price though I figured $300-$350 tops. Unfortunately, the majority of dresses I like are either MS, POB or Jim Hjelm. Hopefully, I'll hear back from the store within the next couple of days with great news for all of us (fingers crossed).

That's a great dress. I only have one MOH so I'm open to what she wears but I really like Melissa Sweet, POB and Jim Helm Maid dresses as well. I can buy the dress in the US but since my MOH lives in Toronto, it would help if she can see and try on the dresses. I'll also be in Toronto that weekend so if bridesmaid dresses are shown, it'll be great timing.

Duh, Pearl Bridal House is closed today so no wonder I couldn't get a hold of anyone Alright ladies, hopefully I'll have good news for us tomorrow.ILTW, I haven't seen the dress IRL so I have no idea how it fits, but I imagine it would be pretty flattering (I hope anyways). I only have to worry about my sister so that's the good thing, but she's got some serious kadonk-kadonk

Hi Pocahontas! Thanks for the head's up ... I live in Vancouver so I won't be able to go. I hope you find your dress there or get a great discount. That POB dress is adorable!!My bridesmaids will be wearing a POB Vineyard Collection dress, #1302 and I'm getting them from a store in Bellingham, WA, which is right just across the border ... They are only $198 and since we are getting more than 4, there is 15% off that as well so if you don't find what you are looking for, going across the border and having the dresses shipped etc, might be an option, if that's a concern for you. Being in TO, have you considered a roadtrip to NY to visit the POB store? ![]() I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time at the trunk show, you'll have to tell us all about it!! * Too much of a good thing can be wonderful * ~ Mae West |

***UPDATE*** - so I just got off the phone with a sales associate and, unfortunately, bridesmaid dresses are not going to be included in either of the trunk sales BIG HOWEVER, there is going to be a bridesmaid dresses sale on November 28th and 29th by appointment only. The SA couldn't confirm what the discounts will be at this point in time because it hasn't yet been determined. I did however schedule an appointment in a couple of weeks with my sister and I'll ask for a update on the specifics of the sale then.CDN, maybe you can do what my sister and I are doing and make an earlier appointment for your MOH to try on dresses while you're in town then if you find something you like she can wait until the sale date to order.

Thanks for letting us know Pocahontas! I think I will make an appointment before the sale to check out the dresses. I also didn't know POB had a store in NY. (Thanks Sparkalicious!) My MOH is visiting me here before we both head back to Toronto together. Hopefully we can squeeze in an appointment for us to check out the dresses in NY. I'm interested in comparing the prices. ETA: Just noticed I made "Ideal Rock" status on my 1 year PS anniversary! "Happy anniversary to me!" LOL

Sparkalicious, my original post to you got eaten up in cyberspace, argh! But, I just wanted to tell you that your BM dress is gorgeous. What colour did you choose? Also, thanks for the heads up about the price difference in CDN versus US $. This may be worth looking into should my sister decide on either a MS or POB dress - thanks again CDN, you're welcome and congratulations on your PS anniversary After you've compared prices will you let me know? I'm not even sure my sister will end up with a MS or POB dress, but just in case it'd be great to know how the prices compare. If the sale down here turns out to be a dud, we have family in NY that could order and ship it to us.

I called Pearl back and asked them why the prices were so discrepant. She then put me on hold and came back to tell me the dress is in fact in the mid 300's, and at the end of November, they are having a sale on all bridemaids dresses!

I've contacted Priscilla of Boston in NY to make an appointment to see MOH dresses November 6th. If there's any styles you want me to check out for you (ie. cost and fit), lemme know. My MOH is visiting me that week and then we'll be travelling together back to Toronto the following week. I'm hoping to get to Pearl's while I'm there.

Hey Pocahontas, wanted to give you an update on the dresses my MOH tried on this past Thursday. The favourite is the Melissa Sweet 222 in Dandelion seen here. Price is $248. I forgot to ask if alterations were included. The issue with this dress is the material. The SA said it's a warm material (Silk Faillle) for an outdoor destination wedding. We'll have to make a decision soon. The SA said if we order now it'll come in March. The wedding's in May. ![]()

The second dress we loved and a close second is this one, Melissa Sweet 118. The material is a lot more appropriate for Mexico and I love the neckline. Both dresses looked good on my MOH; she just prefers the more fitted look of the first dress. I forgot to ask the price of this one but assume it's in the same range. I'm still going to make an appointment at the Mississauga boutique for some time next week. I'd rather get it there if the price is the same because of alterations. ETA: If we go with this dress, it'll either be in Sunshine or Green Tea. ![]()

Hey CDN, First, let me apologize for not responding to your previous post offering to check prices for me. I didn't see it and I feel like such a cow for not thanking you for the thoughtful offer. Now that that's outta the way (hiding face in shame), I love your dress choices and the colours you're considering. FWIW, my favourite's also #1. I hear what the SA is saying about the fabric, but really it's such a short dress that's not super fitted with spaghetti straps so how hot can it really be, ya know? By the way, I'm glad you posted 'cause I was wondering about you. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, did you decide on wedding colours? My sister, mom and I went to Pearl and Ritche on Friday. I swear I think I made my sister try on almost all the MS and POB BM dresses they had. In the end, we my mom and I loved the very first dress I had pulled a pic of when I first got engaged. My sister likes it a lot, but she feels the top is a bit too low It's this one:MS 215 $450 By the way, the SA still didn't know whether the discount was going to be 10% or 15% off. ![]()

This is my sister's first pick (fit wise) and mine and my mom's second pick. It's a Lazaro for $330 and the colour would be blackberry, which is much darker than what I had originally wanted to get. We all, including FI, agree the colour of the MS dress is gorgeous and perfect. The problem is I'm the one paying for the dress so I'm kinda annoyed to pay $450 for a dress my sister's not super excited about, ya know? Argh, I don't know what to do ![]() ![]()

Pocahontas, please don't apologise! I almost forgot I promised to give you an update! I'm still going back and forth with the colours only because everyone I've asked has copied the PS opinions. Everyone's divided! Ugh. Anyways, I figure a yellow or green MOH dress would be safe until I can decide to go with the orange or blue. I LOVE the MS dress you posted! I adore empire dresses myself but my MOH is really thin and some of them look too baggy on her. She really prefers a more fitted look and thinks the first dress has a bit of a Mexican flair with the flounce on the hem. The top of the dress you like doesn't look too low on the model. Would your sister be more comfortable with straps/halter? Ok, seriously though, $450 is too much and I totally get your hesitation in paying for it if your sister isn't loving it as much as the other one. (I prefer the MS over the Lazaro.) I think you should call the store in NY and see what they charge. I'd be surprised if it was that much. (I assume the $450 is CDN + tax?) Would your sister need much alterations?

CDN, You're smart to order a colour that'll go with either colour scheme. I agree with your MOH about the style of #1 being fun and more fitting with the location. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong either way, but I do prefer the first one. It seems my sister has the opposite problem to your MOH - she's pear shaped so the a-line or empire shapes are most flattering. Regarding the strap vs strapless thing, she could go either way. She says it's the MS fit specifically - this was me and my mom ------> ![]() because honestly it doesn't fit any lower than the Lazaro. I know $450's a lot, right? I think with the sale, we'll save the taxes, but that's it. Still too much for a dress she thinks is meh, right? Thankfully, because of the style she wouldn't need much, if any, alterations so I could purchase it in NYC, but it's the headache of having to do that, ya know? I'm so tempted to just pick a cheap (and ugly) dress she'll be happy with so long as I can get the colour I want - lol (only half kidding). By the way, if it's worth it to you to get your dress at Pearl, I know the SA said she would honour the sale price before the end of the month.

Thanks for the tip about the sale price at Pearl! If you want, I can call the NY shop tomorrow for you and ask about the price. I just think $450 is too much considering your MOH's feelings towards it. Were there any other dresses/brands you've considered?

CDN, Thanks, that would be awesome! We did look at a few other labels and tons of other styles, but there wasn't anything else we both liked. I did find these tonight though so I'm going to get my sis to try them this weekend hopefully: I LOVE this one, but I doubt she'll be comfortable with the style given her shape. Notice it's similar to the second dress I posted for colour reference - my sister did try that specific dress on so we could see the colour on her and it looked great, but she wasn't feeling it so to speak. I'm not sure this would be any better as it looks more fitted, but I can hope, right? http://www.jasminebridal.com/J_2_1_1_1.aspx?sqno=JPN2008092510386&j_style_no=STYL20080821001&j_line_no=LINE20080821003&j_line_season=B Meh? http://www.jasminebridal.com/J_2_1_1_1.aspx?sqno=JPN2008092510540&j_style_no=STYL20080821001&j_line_no=LINE20080821002&j_line_season=F I think my sis will like this one, but I'm not loving it: http://www.jasminebridal.com/J_2_1_1_1.aspx?sqno=JPN2008092510662&j_style_no=STYL20080821001&j_line_no=LINE20080821001&j_line_season=S

Hi Pocahontas, of the three jasmine bridal dresses you posted, my favourite is the first one. I have a feeling, though, your sister won't like it due to her body shape. The MS215, though, is my over-all favourite. I just got off the phone with POB and the SA let me know the MS215 is $248 US. If this is the dress you want, I would definitely try to get it from the US, especially due to that price difference (even with the exchange). I'm sure they can ship it to you or if there is something I can do to help (I come to T.O. semi regularly), please let me know. My other suggestion is to find out if any of the bridal boutiques carry this dress in Buffalo. You can place the order over the phone if you know your sister's size and drive over when it comes in. Hope this helps!
