I just bought this .92 carat diamond for a "song and a dance" price because of the feather across the table. I'm hoping it won't be too noticable because of the color, but the rest of it sparkles like crazy. I'm thinking of doing a rose gold halo at some point in the future after I saw a picture of a DBL rose gold halo with a half carat yellow champagne diamond. I know champagne diamonds are not everyone's thing, but that makes them still pretty affordable, and I loved the pic of the rose gold halo around the same color diamond that DBL made, and a PS'er got (I forget the name of the PS'er). Here are two views of it. |

Thanks SanDiegoLady, you are very sweet, and you always have something nice to say. I like the yellowish of it, and I think it will look great in a rose gold halo. Like this stone below, it's an Indian stone. This is the look I'm trying to accomplish, and the stone cost less than the LOGR mount I'm going to get for it. That's the amazing thing - yes, there are still big bargains in the diamond world!! I hope the PS'er doesn't mind me sharing their beautiful ring with the forum. I apologize, I forget their name. ![]() |

Oh, that's really nice ! ! I love the color of it. It is a champagne color and I'm, sort of, rather fond of champagne. ![]() I like I1 stones. It makes it easier to ID your stone and inclusions are interesting. Can I ask where you found it?

Is $255 a really good price for an almost one carat champagne diamond with this feather? There are no other visible inclusions. Again, I don't think the feather is going to detract much due to the color and the sparkle, especially with the naked eye. I'm not getting it for an ering, or even for a special heirloom piece, but rather because I like the combination of yellow with rose gold, and this stone has quite a bit of yellow in it, and the price was a steal IMO. I know this is crazy, but I also like the fact that the girdle is polished. One of my pet peeves with diamonds is unpolished girdles. |

you know more about diamonds than i do! i'd think that as long as the feather isn't breaking the surface anywhere, you're fine. also, you're happy with it for the use you intend it for. set it and enjoy it. if i could get an almost champagne for that price, i'd buy it. i'm assumiing its not been enhanced in any way, of course. also, even if some day you hit it the wrong way and it shatters, you're not out a ton of bucks for it. any diamond can chip if hit in just the right/wrong way. enjoy! movie zombie "I don't feel enjoyment watching films that evoke passivity. When they set it, I will tell them to avoid the feather as much as possible (did think about that). I want to bezel set it, but will probably do prongs, and low set. I still can't believe I paid that little (that inlcudes shipping!!). It's amazing how much they want for brownish diamonds in the retail stores. I was at the jewelers and they had so much champagne and brown diamond jewelery set in black gold. They also had this one huge dark brownish yellow scissor cut diamond with opalescent hazziness to it. Very cool stone!! It's nice to see these "unwanted" stones being utilized in jewelry. |

so, is there an easy way to differentiate between a CZ champagne diamond and the real thing w/o having the stone appraised? movie zombie "I don't feel enjoyment watching films that evoke passivity. If you need that kind of comfort, I don't understand why you wouldn't go to a spa." Chan-wook Park |

Yes, there's the huff test, and the refractive index water test, and a cz also shows two refraction lines in the pavillion vs one for diamond in a RBC (that's an easy one) - or is it the other way around, I forget. I know at that price, it's highly suspect it's a CZ. |

(wish I could test it for you!) Diamond's SG is 3.52 CZ's is between 5.00 and 6.00. Do you have a diamond of like size that you can compare--just bounce it up and down in your hand to judge--they feel really different--cz will feel much heavier. Coati, G.G. |

SanDiegoLady: Love your new avitar - great picture. Coatmundi: It's funny, but I think I can "smell" cz's. I can even look in a glass case at a jewelers and tell you which ones are cz's and which ones are diamonds in the display settings. Jewelers always get a kick out of my knowing this. I know all I have to do is look at the refraction lines in the pavillion and at my other round brilliant cuts. That's really an easy way to tell (they should have the same number of refraction lines). The only other stone that may come close to looking like this is perhaps a zircon or a moissanite, and those are doubly refractive, so I'm not worried about it. It's funny, but this one lady I work with got a 3 carat diamond (supposedly), but I was able to instantly tell it was a CZ. She was afraid to even show it to me because she was telling everyone it was a diamond, and she knew I was interested in diamonds and colored stones. She showed it up close to everyone, but when I tried to take a close inspection of it, she grabbed it away. I was able to catch the fact that it didn't have the right amount of pavillion lines, and that gave it away, besides the fact that it just ddn't have that same "look" like a diamond. It was a nice cz though. I understood her apprehension. My other friend has a real three carat diamond, and I think she can turn off the electricity in her house since that is free bling!! |

Pavillion angle lines: This is Elle_chris' gorgeous new ering, and I also love this picture since it shows the diamond pavillion lines so well, just to demonstrate. See the horizontal lines going across the pavillion, I believe a diamond has two or three (now that I see this picture) and a rbc cz has a different amount. That's an easy way to tell a rbc cz vs a diamond right away. ![]() |

Whoo hoo, I got my diamond today and you can barely notice the feather with the naked eye. It's a real diamond and it's cut really really well, and it's huge!! I can't believe I only paid $255 for it. Now to look for a setting, I will post pics later tonight. It's slightly lighter and more yellow than my other coffee colored diamond that I had recently set into the LOGR. It looks exactly like the color of the diamond in the rose gold mounting posted above. I'm so excited, I love bargains!!

Here's the diamond, with some of my others for comparison. I do think it is cut better than my other diamonds, and the feather, which you can see in this photograph, is not very noticable at all to the naked eye. The color really traps the feather and conceals it, and the whole stone sparkles. The diamond sparkles like crazy and it looks like a one carater easily (it's .92 carat). Now again, I know champagne diamonds are not everyone's thing, but for $255, I'm doing cartwheels over here. I don't think the feather breaks the surface, I have to loupe it. ![]() |

Another up close. It came out really dark because of the camera shadow, but as you can see, it's very well cut for a champagne diamond. The arrows look nice.![]() |
