gk172 Cut Rock Total Posts: 103 Last Post: 10/8/2008 Member Since: 4/15/2007	Hey there could someone please let me know what they think about todays valuation please. I took in my eternity band to be valued for insurance purposes and it has been valued differantly to what we purchased it as, it was valued as a I/J VS2/SI1 and bought as G VS and the valuer told me there was 2 carats of stones but changed it when i told him it was bought as 2.5 carat are these differances acceptable within the valuation? This is the second time ive been to the same shop and the first 2 rings he valued one was straight off the cert and the other he valued as a I when again this was bought as a G but from a differant shop to my other ring. Im not too happy about paying for a valuation which doesnt match the purchase as i have faith in the shops the rings were bought from and dont really know what to do, whether i should find the money to get them revalued by someone else. Can anyone please help? Thanks if you can

Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. denverappraiser Ideal Rock Total Posts: 4,618 Last Post: 11/25/2009 Member Since: 7/21/2004	The valuer is estimating the weight of the stones based on measurements that he/she is able to take. Usually this includes the diameter and sometimes this includes depth. Usually it doesnt. Most appraisers will also use some sort of average measurement instead of measuring each of the 25 stones and calculating each stone individually but this depends on how much time they have available for the project. In this kind of circumstance, +/- 25% on the estimated total weight isnt unreasonable. Presumably the setter had the opportunity to actually weight the stones prior to setting and, again presumably, the seller had access to this data because it usually plays into the price. This makes the seller a much more accurate source and if the conclusion is that theyre credible, I would go with the jeweler as correct about the weight. G-->J is a pretty big color difference. This strikes me as your most important issue. Call up the valuer and discuss it with them and confirm that they are solid in their position. If they're not, schedule a time to reinspect the piece (at no cost to you). Then call up the jeweler to see what they have to say. At least one, and possibly both are wrong and I would want to get to the bottom of it if it were me. I suspect your jeweler will as well. You mention that youve had prior problems with this same appraiser and you apparently lack confidence in their reliability. That said, why do you keep going back? gk172 Cut Rock Total Posts: 103 Last Post: 10/8/2008 Member Since: 4/15/2007	Thanks, I took your advice and called the valuer and he has admitted to being harsh with the eternity ring and he will change the valuation to a G and clarity vs1/2, apparently once stones are mounted that then affects the appearance of the colour and as the stones are set in yellow gold the colour grading was lower. Also that my D stone would be graded as a G if no certificate to back it up. I now have no faith in this guy and wont be returning to them, i shall seek out someone else with a better reputation and who will do a more thorough valuation rather than a 5 min look.
