Maybe I'm old fashioned. I LOVE baseball. There's something romantic about it.

I've got my Cubbies hat! I feel like a traitor from my Mets - but at least the Cubbies colors are similar!

Am I the only Baseball fan?

Thanks for replying Sylves,

from the lack of responses seems like we are in the minority.

Yes, Cubbie vs Red sox would be a O.K. in my book!

I'm somewhat of a baseball fan, but I've stopped paying as much attention since the Astros took another late season swan-dive (this time before making the playoffs, not that it would have mattered--they're about the only team that can find a way to lose to the Braves in the post-season).

That said, I too am hoping for a Sox-Cubs series, if for no other reason than sheer malice. I'm fully expecting to see something that will equal Bucky Dent or Bill Buckner--what would the world be if Red Sox fans could no longer moan about the Curse???

Baseball is great. For some reason I seem to be more interested this year than most. I'm not a Cubs or Sox fan but that's the series I'm rooting for!

I think Fox does a good job with the coverage - except for those God-awful swooshing sounds when the instant replay screen comes and goes. Save that for the NASCAR coverage.

It isn't baseball season, is it? I mean, I thought it was, "the boys of *summer*"!

I am a real American in that I grew up with baseball. My grandmother and aunt used to watch it on television. My aunt was a big Brooklyn Dodgers fan. I remember going to one Yankees game with my father and younger brother and sitting in the bleachers...but I don't think I followed the game. I was more interested in having a hotdog.

And now...as a grown-up...I find it excruciatingly boring and am annoyed that every game is broadcast on what is, otherwise, my radio news station. (Don't worry. I am equally bored by basketball, football, and hockey. How can anyone *CARE*!!???)

I really, really, really, really, really, really want to be a baseball fan. Unfortunately, baseball officials and the evil empire of Peter Angelos have conspired to keep the Expos from moving from a teeny tiny market that can't support them to a huge, gigantic market that would die to get them (D.C.). I drive to and from work every day through some of the ritziest neighborhoods in the area and wonder WHY CAN'T D.C. GET A BASEBALL TEAM!?!?! We have the infrastructure (Metro), the money and the desire.

I even live within walking distance from one of the potential stadium sites.

But alas, I don't think it is meant to be.

So, I'm rooting for the BoSox. My girlfriend is from Beantown so I sort-of count them as my team too, for now.

Not I. I'm not much into 'team' sports, since our 'stick game' got reformed into the mollycoddle game of LaCrosse.

I enjoy marathons, triathalons etc.

PS Also archery, but that might have something to do with being the only woman, I know of anyway, to make a state championship in traditional recurve archery (hunting) with no sights. (And yes, I have a bow hunter licence.)

That's a good question. Maybe b/c the O's are so close. I wonder if the whole Balt/Wash area ever recovered from the horror of the Balt. Colts leaving in the middle of the night so to speak.

D.C. use to have one. It was called the Washington Senators That will date me ;(

Speaking of Triva was it in the 1985 back to the furture movie part II that biff goes into the future and gets the list of teams that won games from the last 25 years, brought if back and made millions on bets.

Didnt the kid pick up an artical that said the Cubs won the world seris in 2003 ? If that is true that would be weird, I will check on this.

What really does happen is in 2015, Marty sees something
saying the Cubs BEAT the "Florida Gators" in the series.

also
During one of the Back to the Futures, marty picks up an almanac, and he says "Florida wins
the World Series in 1997" , and he laughs and throws it away... when the movie was written
the florida marlins were not a baseball team, and florida had no team... but as we all know the
florida marlins did win the world series in 1997

Ha! I forgot; but remember the Washington Senators!

You should investigate about Back to the Future. That would be weird possible foreshadowing.

Yes, F&I, I am a baseball fan. Not the fanatic that my son and many others are, but I do love the game. My son is once again cheering for the Yankees, I'm doing my usual cheering for the underdog, and for some reason I think the Cubs will make a great opponent for the World Series. IMO, the Yankees need to step aside and let some others shine through. (He hates when I say that...)

OOOOH, F&I, you are NOT alone, i *adore* baseball!! And, since I was born and raised in Chicago, I have been breathlessly watching every minute of the playoffs. I have to say, though, that today I was still mentally exhausted from watching the 4 1/2 hour nailbiter from yesterday I could barely stand it. I almost wept with joy when they made it past the first round!!

That said, I live in the california bay area now, and made it to game 5 of the A's/Red Sox game...Absolutely, unbelievably exciting...right up until the last pitch. :-)

It's amazing how many cubs fans there are everywhere...I wish I were home, but everyone at the bar I was at yesterday was cheering for the cubs, so it made it great.

Cheers!

We are on the East Coast - that translated into 1:00 am. Quite a show - wasn't it!

That said, this whole Roger Clemmons/ Rameriz debacle w/ hitting players - I think they both should be sanctioned. I can't support the Yanks as long as Clemmons in on their team. I think he is a dirty player. But then, in the Subway Series, I will never forgive him for hitting my Met's player, Piazzo (sp?), in the HEAD w/ a pitch.

GO CUBBIES!!!!!

LawGem, so sorry babe. Maybe it will happen someday!

On a side note - I have to say I don't blame Martinez at all for taking down the old man - he swung at him!! And I am not saying that just cause I am a Sox fan... that old man has got to be out of his mind for going at him like that. DUH!

I am so bummed when tonight's game got rained out, but I don't blame them...it was a lousy day weather wise here, and I don't even think watching it live would have been much fun in the rain. Too dangerous for the players anyways! We'll beat the Yanks next game though! (keeping fingers crossed!!!)

While I agree to some extent, Martinez started it a few innings before w/ answering some Yankee trash talk w/ pointing to someone in the dugout & then pointing to his head. In other words, Martinez responded by saying he was going to purposely go for his head. Poor form for a pitcher.

Definitely pulling for the Cubbies; but, I'm enamoured with "Pudge" the catcher for the Marlins. What up with the packed sandwich eating at 6:00? Guess it was dinner time. Funny that he packs his own sandwich.

Did anyone watch the game last night ????  They said on the radio this morning that the fan who TRIED to catch that ball should go into the witness protection program.  If I were him, I would definintely be scared !!!

Even though I am a Marlin's fan, I would love to see the Cubs win.

I'm not really a baseball fan, but I to am rooting for the Sox to play the Cubs. There's a lot of drama in that series. I'll tell you one thing though, I would hate to be that guy who got in the way of the Cubs outfielder when he missed that catch. OUCH! He must be having a rough day.

I watched the game last night in shock that the Marlins did it again after they won in 1997 and then their team was tore apart by their owner.  It was an exciting game and a sad one too.  I really wanted the Cubs to win.  It was so sad to see the faces of the fans.

So....who's it going to be tonight ???  Yankees or Sox ???

I think it all boils down to the pitching. I'd like to see the Sox simply for something different for a change. But, the Yankee's have been there so often - they are more seasoned in winning the big ones.

We will all now in a few hours!

Sad about the Cubbies. But, I have come to like the Marlins spirit & hussle.

Don't mean to offend the Red Sox fans out there; but you've got to admit that is the lamest rallying cry ever - picked up by lame Boston sportswriters.
