Please forgive me if this is not the smartest question in the world but will I see pricing trends in the diamond industry (mainly looking at on-line vendors) like many other retail industries. What I'm getting at is will I find better deals after the holiday season than right now going into the holiday season? sorry again if this is a stupid question...It's just something that passed through my mind as I'm now very seriously looking for a diamond but feel that it might not be the best time to buy. Yasmin...that's odd...Don't see your name spelled that way too often...I say this becasue my girlfriend'd name is spelled the same way, freaked me out at first becasue I thought that she was reading the same boards as me! As for the purchase. there are several establishments that seem to have a pretty good reputation around here (good old gold, whiteflash, ect)...these are where I'm going to start my search. Andy

Audi, the only thing you'll get during the holiday season is waiting...waiting...waiting.. for every jeweller, the holiday season is a headache in itself... so be expected to find with difficulty what you're searching for.. buy before or after.... for the price, same thing all year long for diamonds. Thanks for the input...i appreciate it...so is NOW too late to buy as the holiday season is essencially here...or can I still feel confident...I'd like to propose on her birthday (Jan 20) so I suppose that I really don't have many options but to start now.

Now is not too late. It's not even mid-October so only the most diligent have started their holiday shopping. You should start asap to miss the holiday rush.

Now is a good time to buy a diamond. A month from now is OK but jewelers are getting a little rushed. After Christmas or I should say after the New Year is OK but the selection has been picked over. I would make your purchase now and see if you can hold on to it until after her birthday. Better yet, give it to her now to spread out her "special" days. dimonbob, GG |

Mara posted a stat somewhere recently that indicated that something like 40% of all engagement ring sales are made in the fourth quarter?? I've also read that the majority of engagements in North America take place between October and Valentine's Day...so, Dimonbob is right, now would be a good time to get going on your search! I don't see a problem with proposing on her birthday, but some women prefer that their "engagement date" be a separate day all its own... Sursum Corda! |

I was shopping around on Thursday and the store I went into had many rings on sale. I asked about it and they said that they were rings that had been around for a while and thehy wanted to move them out before Christmas season. Found one I kinda liked that was a white engagment ring with a .89 tw. Looked very nice and was only $1030.00 marked down from $2060.00 Don't know if I will get it or not, probably not, but 50% off is something to look for.

You will probably discover that traditional brick and mortar jewelry stores will run all sorts of sales through the holidays and even after, but compared to the every day prices of most of the internet dealers, they aren't sales at all... Consider that the average retail jeweler in America triples the price of whatever they sell and then place it on sale at 50% off - what a deal! (extreme sarcasm) And all the while, most of us on the internet are working with a margin of only a few percent, the difference between the two realms of 'retail' is extreme and the funny thing is that most of us on the internet are selling merchandise of a much higher quality than the average retailer and provide more in-depth information to boot. Historically speaking, there will be a few minor price increases imposed by DeBeers throughout the holiday season and those price increases will not roll back after the holidays are over. We've 'never' run a sale, we've never needed to. The best advice we can offer is to buy the diamond you are looking for when it appears on-line because that is the time to buy, when what you are looking for has surfaced. Todd L. Gray, President |

---------------- Ditto here. You're just better off to purchase now. The selection will be more plentiful & the service better than during crunch time of the true Holiday season.

As for proposing on her B-day, in my opinion, I think that's a great idea ... and I suspect she will not mind receiving the gift of a lifetime ... plus, if she is expecting it, she would probably be disappointed if it didn't happen. Good luck!
