hellloooo - i was wondering if there is a noticeable size difference between .70, .75 and .80 carat RBs.  i'm pretty sure our budget will allow for something in this range and just wanted some feedback.

i've seen a lot of halo-ed rings of this size, but how about solitaires? three stone rings? maybe even 5-stone?  i've been totally obsessing over 5-stone engagement rings with the center stone of about this size with probably 4 ten pointer side stones. they're just sooooooooo pretty!

any input would be appreciated!!

There is not a huge difference, but the price difference is not huge, either.  I'd go for bigger.

It depends on the diameter measurements of the diamonds in question, if well cut you may see a little difference with direct comparison between .70 and .80, not so much without,  if the diamonds being considered are not well cut then this may not be the case, as they could spread more or less for the weight.

Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. When a horse dies, the memory lives on because an enormous part of his owner's heart, soul, very existence dies also...but that can never be laid to rest, it is not meant to be...

I don't think there would be much size difference but I would go larger if you could.

I don't think it will be noticeable, but it it were me i'd try to hit the 6mm diameter mark in the diamond which is about 80-81 points....good luck!

Hi, When I bought my ring, I have considered the same thing too, between .75 and .80ct. Eventually, I went for a 0.82ct. It measures 6.01 - 6.05 x 3.70 mm. Here is the link: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=85339

I orginally wanted a 0.7ct and thought the 0.8ct was a little too big. I had heard the stories of DSS around here, so went with a 0.8ct just in case. And I have to tell you, it's look smaller than it first did. But I love the size and am glad I didn't go bigger.

Hi, I would like to share my experience. I bought a 0.75ct RB on a classic 4-prong Tiffany setting from WF some time back. Recently I traded in the ring for a 0.84ct RB on a clara de ashley three stone setting also from WF. Both stones are very close in proportions. To my surprise, I could notice a significant increase in size from the former to the latter. I reckon the two side smaller ACA stones and the setting has as much to do with the visual difference as the slight increase in the center stone. So I'm glad I made the trade up even though it doesn't look like it will make a lot of difference initially.

Side by side I would notice the difference.  I would get the biggest, quality diamond you can afford.

Definitely go for the largest you can afford. They tend to shrink over time!

Its for that reason a lot of good vendors offer an upgrade policy. One factor NOT to compromise on is the quality of the cut - a well-cut diamond looks larger and sparkles more than a larger carat that is not well-cut!

Regulars to PS will likely have seen this comparison before (photo from PS).  The stone on the left is actually smaller carat weight than the one on the right  but it looks larger because it has the topmost cut quality and hence is returning light from edge-to-edge.

Visiually, when well-cut, 0.7 carat is ca. 5.8mm diameter, 0.8 carat ca. 6mm, 0.9 carat is ca. 6.3mm diameter and 1 carat is ca. 6.5mm diameter

Whether the difference between 0.7 and 0.8 carat is noticeable depends on the style of setting: halo style, bezel or rub-over set diamonds look bigger so that the difference between 0.7 and 0.8 becomes academic in such styles.
