Greetings to all!! Well, I have been on the hunt for an engagement ring and just started seriously searching. I found Blue Nile and Union Diamond and was zeroing in on a few different diamonds. I started trying to do a little research and thought that I knew what I would buy, however, I came across this sight. From what I can tell, the majority of the view here are causing me to rethink my potentinal purchase. I was originally looking at buying a D-G VVS1 or 2 ring in the .9-1c range. My budget is 5-7k for the entire ring. Please help. I am sending links to a couple of the rings I was considering. Thanks! Welcome! It is really essential to have photos and images to help judge cut quality such as ASET, unfortunately to the best of my knowledge I don't think BN or UD offer them. It is cut which is so important for a lovely diamond, I would recommend you check out vendors who have in house stones and ones with top cuts such as AGS0, check out - www.winkjones.com he sells Cut By Infinity Princess which are superb diamonds. www.whiteflash.com and www.goodoldgold.com these chaps sell AGS0 cut grade and other well cut Princess. Also unless you want D-F VVS for purity reasons, then you could drop to G colour as you mentioned and VS or even verified eyeclean SI1 clarity if working with a trusted expert vendor such as the above - but of course if D - F VVS is your preference, feel free to ignore that advice! Here are some examples - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4807/ http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-49934.htm# ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. Lorelei's advice is golden. Also: a) consider using the search by cut tool to make your work easier b) AGS0 is good, and c) of the two Lorelei shows above...not sure how much it matters, but only the GOG has AGS0. Ira (Ruffles have Ridges) Z. |

So should my main concern be cut, clarity, or color?? I keep seeing references to visually clean - is that the right term? If I went with a g, h or vs1, vs2, s1, or s2 how much of a difference would it be?

If i were the one buying the diamond my main concern would be: 1. cut, ideal 2.color, for a princess i would not go lower than an H in color bc they tend to show more color than say a round 3. clarity, to just be eyeclean When you hear refences to being visually clean or eyeclean most ppl mean that the diamonds imperfections are not see by the eye. A si2 diamond can be just a clean and beautiful as a vvs1 diamond as long as the si2 diamond is eyeclean. Tons of people own si1&2 diamonds on this site that are beautiful and clean, I even think people prefer these si diamonds bc of the value they offer and when eyeclean they look the same as a vvs diamond. Now for the J diamond you posted, the cut is beautiful but i think it has too much color and will not be as white as you would want your princess to look and for the clairity, i think vvs is too much clarity imho. Here is a thread on si stones........... http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=36489 and of the diamonds i posted earlier, i think this is the best one http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3777/ Breann |

A well cut J Princess will not necessarily show any colour especially face up, maybe a hint of warmth from the side and a softer white, but still white. Also some do prefer VVS for cultural or purity reasons, I hope you don't mind me pointing these things out, but it is best to try to allow for the personal preferences of the poster seeking information rather than what we might choose. ![]() Vil, the round looks great, check it is eyeclean to your standards by asking your WF rep to evaluate it with you. ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse.
