Hi all! Been a while... I have been away for a bit as I was moving, had no DSL and was too busy at the office to spend too much time on here (missed it). VERY happily engaged now, moved in with fiance and life is good! EVERYONE who sees the ring LOVES it and I do have many of you to thank for helping me maintain my sanity. Anyways... I saw an article about an auctionbeing held at Sotheby's this month for one of the rarest diamonds in the world. D color, Internally Flawless and weight of 103.83 carats! They expect $10 Million or more. But as soon as I saw the article I immediately thought of everyone here. Plus, there is a picture (sort of) of the stone too. ![]() http://www.msnbc.com/news/977063.asp?0cv=CB20 So enjoy! Hope all is well.
Thanks! ![]() G. |

WOW!!! MUCH better picture than the one in the article I included. That thing is OBNOXIOUS!!! Okay, so aside from not even coming close to having an extra $10 million lying around, what would someone do with a stone that size? Second... Is it true that if you put a truly flawless, colorless diamond like that in water, that you cannot see it in the water? G.
Thanks! |

----------------Not true. A diamond's refractive index is quite a bit higher than water's, so you would be able to see it easily. In fact, immersion in liquids is one means of separating diamonds from simulants. Most of them have lower RI's, so if immersed in high-RI liquid (not water), they will disappear, while a diamond will still be visible.

My word! Yes, a door knocker or lethal weapon. Would someone actually insure that babble? I guess maybe Lloyds or someone like that. I guess you would be required to have an armed guard accompany you. SPYGIRL! would like to wear that diamond once - set as a pendant in a really moderne design. Much like the design in the Iman (sp) pick a while back.

(Australia) -------------------------------------------------------------- If one has $10 mill to spare, they likely have a nice Ferrari or Lamborghini (or several) in the garage... Thought the diamond would be quite an impressive gear shift modification perhaps? Hood ornamant could work as well... Could be the ultimate glass cutter of course. ![]() I can't stop looking at the picture of the thing. It is HUGE! Thanks! |
