I'm ready to embark on this project (the tsavorite earrings design is not yet complete). You ladies have given me a number of ideas already. Any more? Leon wants trapezoid sides, but I pooh-poohed him.

Is that one of the spessartites from the new find in Tanzania?
I just talked with one of bigger dealers I buy from in Kenya yesterday, and he told me the Tanzania spessartite find is dried up. It only lasted about 9 months.

What about something really modern like this Alex Sepkus with natural colored yellow, orange and brown diamonds?

What do you want style wise?  Three stone?  Why did you pooh-pooh the idea of traps?  Were you thinking of colored melee for this stone?

I wasn't going to use sides. I saw the perfect setting in Bal Harbour but I don't have a pic. Leon offered to fly there on my tab. Ha!

Harriet, are you still looking for pink sapphires for your spess?

Thanks, but it's not quite my style. If I do use colour, it will be hot pink.

What I saw in Fl. - a very delicate curved setting with white melee. I pooh-poohed traps because they're too angular compared to the cushion.

I've found them, but that dealer is MIA.

The Pad effect would be lovely.

Maybe rose gold setting for a "pad effect"? Could be very interesting with a spess!

That would be lovely. Unfortunately, as the spess is rather large (5.15 ct.), it would be safer in a stronger metal.

HI:

Simple bezel.  Like the Scholt (sp) half-bezel setting. No diamonds/micropave setting, etc etc.....

cheers--Sharon

Hi Harriet,

British designer Rodney Rayner does a lot of interesting color combinations with color stone pave. His designs may be too contemporary for you, but you can get some ideas about what colors will enhance your spess.

Sharon,
Thanks. I do want to keep it simple.

AN,
Pink of the same saturation and tone is what I have in mind. At the same time, I'd like the setting to be simple since the stone glows like the dickens. Conundrum.

First, I need to ask about your tastes a bit more. Do you like vintage, modern, classic?

I'm thinking this Knox split shank:

http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=94992

or what do you think about something vintage from Single Stone?

Btw, it's a beauty.

Thanks! I'm open as to style (except the really modern creations). A split shank would be nice, but I got one not too long ago.

It's a stunning colour, and like a couple of others, I'm thinking a half bezel type setting, along the lines of Scholdt.

I'm looking for inspiration along the bezel route also, and came across this a few days ago. It is rather lovely.

Gorgeous!

Thanks for your help. I can't bezel this bugger. It's too wide.

What about half moon sides in a sleek, YG claw-prong Leon?

I've been meaning to tell you that your avatar makes me laugh.

I'm afraid half moons are not my cup of tea. Give up on this stone?

My avatar? Why thank you. She makes us laugh 100 times a day.

Give up? Never!

What about a thin, rounded YG micropave setting with claw prongs (and yellow diamond melee) a la Heidi Klum's gorgeous ring?

Well, the photo didn't attach though I did everything right, so I'll assume it's not allowed. But if you Google "Heidi Klum engagement ring," you'll see what I'm talking about.

What does she do to make you laugh? I have two Shih Tzus. Endless entertainment.

How about pink? I'm afraid yellow would dilute the orange.

I like the idea of having hot pink in there somewhere. Some other ideas that come to mind are small blue sapphire melee in a white metal? Or something with white diamonds but bi colored metals?

Once someone ( I feel like it was valeria), posted a jewelry site that specialized in aqaumarine jewelry, but also mixed various colored stones in her pieces. Wish I knew where to the link was. It had some great pics.

Is that one of the spessartites from the new find in Tanzania?
I just talked with one of bigger dealers I buy from in Kenya yesterday, and he told me the Tanzania spessartite find is dried up. It only lasted about 9 months.
I was lucky then. One of my dealers had it cut for Tucson and I received it as a birthday gift not long after.
