Hi Everybody,
I've learned so much lurking on this site, so I've decided to ask my first question. I would like an opinion on two diamonds. Both are about the same price. Since I'm buying online, I can't visually inspect them.

The first is a 1.90ct, G, VS1. GIA says it has excellent cut, polish, and symmetry, 7.85 x 7.91 x 4.95 with a med to slightly thick faceted girdle. 62.8 depth, 56 table, 36 crown, and 40.6 pavillion. This gives a HCA of 1.8 in the FIC range. Looking at the GIA report it almost looks like a VVS2.

The second is a 2.01ct, G, VS2. GIA says it has an excellent cut, excellent polish and very good symmetry, 8.01 x 8.13 x 5.03 with a medium facted girdle. 62.1 depth, 54 table, 34.5 crown, and 40.6 pavellion. This gives it a HCA of 0.9 in the TIC range. The GIA report shows a large central crystal.

My feeling is that the 2.01ct will be a more impressive stone in a solitare ring setting and that the VS2 crystal and very good symmetry won't negatively affect the look, but I'd like to hear other opinions. Thanks for your help!

Welcome!

Personally I like the second 2.01 ct diamond, it appears to be a very well cut and balanced diamond, the first FIC is cut deeper which can sometimes be the case with this type of diamond, but it is a matter of preference.  However the second gets my vote.  Can you check the diameter on the second diamond, it is fine but sometimes the diameter on well cut diamonds can be a little tighter.  Very good symmetry shouldn't be an issue, it is said that good and above for polish and symmetry look the same to the naked untrained eye, concerning the crystal, check that the diamond is eyeclean to your standards.  Are these diamonds with an online vendor?

Ok, the diameter is actually 8.08 - 8.13, thats better!  My pick would still be for the second diamond, an Idealscope image is always nice if available, but BN don't offer them, however this diamond has excellent proportions and they do have a 30 day return policy so plenty of time to make sure you like the diamond you buy.

Thanks for the opinion. I've taken your advice and ordered the 2.01ct ring. I should receive it on Thursday!
