Companies only? Because in terms of recognisable logos worldwide I'd say the logos of the UN, the Red Cross, and the Olypmics but those aren't companies...

Companies, off the top of my head:

McDonalds

Playboy

Apple

Coca-Cola

CNN / BBC / Sky / Al-Jazeera?

ETA - what does IYO stand for?

agree with Disney/Mickey (the mouse ears silhouette), for me too the Juicy Couture Logo and the Apple computer logo, the NBC Peacock and the Chanel CC's. Not sure about Coke as it says Coca Cola so I read it but I recognize the style of writing.

Agree about
Playboy
Nike

add Tory Burch, Mercedes, Ferrari and Under Armor (my son is a runner so Nike and Under Armor are quite visible in my home)

There must be hundreds of them imprinted on my mind... but these are from a list of most recognizable logos/symbols:

As far as brand awareness, according to the Harris Poll, the number one most recognized brand in the world is....

SONY.

Top spot for 7 years running 2000-2006, only to be ousted by Coca Cola in 2007 (Sony slipped to #2).

Would the Crucifix and Star of David be referred to as logos or trademarks? I don't know how I feel about that.

I think the top 5 are, Mickey Mouse (Disney), McDonalds, Google, Coke-Cola (even though Pepsi is better), and I think Nike.

Okay, before I read anyone's response and muck up my own answer (we did a project on worldwide-recognized brands in college, so this is an interesting topic):

Coke
Apple/Mac
Nike
Disney
McDonalds
