I was wondering how an appraiser would value a setting from Mark Morrell. Do they know how much it costs...do I tell them? I would guess so otherwise, how would they value one platinum setting from another. Anyone know?

I can’t speak for all appraisers, but how I appraise a Mark Morrell piece for insurance replacement purposes is by estimating how much Mark would charge to replace it with another one just like it. How do I do that? I ask Mark. Neil Beaty GG(GIA) ICGA(AGS) NAJA Professional Jewelry Appraisals in Denver There's never a crowd when you go that extra mile. |

I figure how much a top end custom design jeweler would charge for a similar piece. Usually Mark falls within that range. He's not cheap, but none of those top end masters are. Rich, Independent GG Appraiser |

Neil/Richard: I am taking my custom Jeff White Sapphire/Whiteflash setting in to an appraiser tomorrow. I have provided him with all of the documentation provided to me by Jeff and WF. Is there anything else I should do? Things I need to point out? The other issue is that I am in Canada, so this appraisal needs to be done for my CDN insurance policy. WF provided a rather sketchy appraisal with the ring, which was basically a reprint of the bill of sale, with reference to the size/shape of the sapphire (ie: they didn't source it so they provided no detail). Can I expect much more with an independent appraiser? Thanks LS

Depends on the appraiser, but I think most would give you more insight and more information on the stone and semi-mounting than you have now. I think you have given him or her enough information for now, and should just sit back and see what he or she has to say about it now. Rich, Independent GG Appraiser |
