Now we know why Limbaugh made the comments that he made ... he was loopie on OxyContin. What a dope!!! And does his racist comments surprise anyone - the phony was trying to be controversial and shocking.

Who had more background experience to become a sports commentator, Dennis Miller or Rush Limbaugh? What happened to retired sports figures being commentators? Has this gone out of style? Babs |

---------------- Actually, the question ESPN asked was, "Who has more potential to increase our ratings?" It was a cold, cynical decision, and being the big believer in karma that I am, I'm quite happy to see it blow up in their faces. They deserve every bit of this.

There's no crime in wishing for somebody other than white guys to succeed. I hope for Ty Willingham to succeed at Notre Dame mainly because Div 1 football has precious few successful minority coaches. Rush accused the media of letting their hopes for this black quarterback cloud their vision (i.e. objectivity) with regard to his talents. There are a ton of knee-jerk reactions out there, but little discussion of the point Rush raised. I fail to see what the big deal is. You'd think people would be more upset that a guy like Irvin and all his cocaine and prostitute problems is on the show. That and the fact that Irvin has trouble putting two intelligent sentences together. I don't follow football enough to know if McNabb is overrated or not. (I HAVE seen him on the Chunky Soup commercials a couple of times but that's about it.) Maybe I'll look up some stats.

I voted for the "network ploy." How cynical and manipulative of them... A book recommendation - "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot", by SNL alumni Al Franken.

---------------- You need to do that. Those in the know have more to say about Rush being an idiot saying that he is Overrated - nothing to do with the way the media treats black players. An idiot because he doesn't know what he is taking about. As Babs said, what are his creditials! No, R/A you haven't pushed me to the right ![]() ![]() Although, here is where my right leanings come into play. Why the heck didn't Rush stay & fight for the very thing he triumps? He had the right to make the comment. He resigns just because he can't take the heat of his "plolitically incorrect" comment. If some other guy just up and quit over this comment, he'd call them a weenie. While I have agreed & disagreed w/ Rush in the past. I just feel as though he *totally* sold out.

---------------- Oye vey! Do we actually agree. Where are those caffine pills when you need them! Only time will tell, I just wonder if the "drug charge" may have some truth to it. Not that I would condone it....just that it may be a reason for the weenie resignation. If so, he has way bigger fish to fry then our "dopey" right to free speech. Sad...but just speculating because I expected more from him. ...but maybe not from someone who flunked out of school for cheating.

---------------- Well, I've seen plenty of such discussion. Here's a good example here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A37123-2003Oct2.html I think most of the reaction to his comments stems from the fact not that they were racist but that they were simply wrong. I do follow football, and I dont recall anyone pumping up McNabb recently. The darling of the moment is Michael Vick, for good reason. And his comments are especially ridiculous with respect to the Eagles. Has he never been to Philadelphia? To suggest that the local press in Philly would coddle an athlete--black, white, or purple--who wasn't carrying his weight is just silly. They have no compunction savaging the ones who play well. If McNabb truly sucked--which he doesn't--they would be on him like a pack of jackals.

I agree with Lawgem regarding the Eagles fans. They have been vocal in the past with players that have not performed as expected, so I feel Limbaugh's comments were uninformed. Big surprise there. NOT! ![]() I wonder what Limbaugh's purpose was to bring attention to McNabb in the manner in which was chosen. Because if the facts support McNabb being a decent player, then Limbaugh's intentions look suspect to me. In all fairness to Rush, he isn't a big *fat* idiot anymore, he did shed some poundage. However, he remains an idiot despite the weight loss, IMHO.Babs |

Would someone please give me a brief synopsis of what occurred? I see the discussion of it, but don't know what occurred that is *causing* the discussion (other than that Rush Limbaugh said *something*). What is this about oxycontin? A Girl's Best Friend |

---------------- Rush made a comment on an ESPN pregame show that many people have construed as racist. When discussing Eagle Quarterback Donovan McNabb, Rush said he believes McNabb is overated, primarily because he is black. Some of his comments were: "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said on the show. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. " Read in to that what you will. To, if anything it shows he's just plain ignorant. As the article Lawgem posted pointed out, black quarterbacks in the NFL are old news. No one cares if the QB is white or black anymore, as long as they win. That's my opinion at least. As for the drug thing, it's some sort of allegation that he illegally purchased prescription drugs. I wouldn't put much stock in it until the details emerge...I think it originated in the National Enquirer.

Black quarterbacks are old news... Rush is an ethically illiterate male whose sole purpose in life is shocking people. If we ignore him, maybe he'll just slink away. Drugs didn't make him worse, his own psyche did it for him. win "... (Corporations) have all the benefits of voters, without the guidance of a conscience. ... Corporations they will bring this country down." |

The ESPN hoop-la is the least of his worries. Seems like a drug problem is true. And, his "Clintonesq" response to the accusations on his show today. Evidently sudden hearing loss is a side effect of overuse of painkillers, specifically Percoset. Rush supporters are in for a bumpy ride. With his anti-drug stance, epecially legal use of weed for cancer patients, he's toast.

Rush is denying he had sexual relations with that Oxycontin? I hope he was wagging his finger around for dramatic effect.

---------------- Actually, it was his ability to say absolutely nothing except that he promised the whole truth will come out. I felt like he wanted to see just what he *should* say based on what will come to light. Not the truth - just the truth according to spin doctors.
