OK, post your feeling old moments here in the form of:

You know you are getting old when...

I'll start:

You know you are getting old when... your kids look at your high school year book and laugh at how silly the hairstyles and clothes were including your own!   (mid '80s, big teased bangs, other classmates styles included flock of seaguls looks, perms, billy idol look alikes, assymetrical cuts.  Scary '80's looks.  I do agree with them how silly we all looked!)  I remember laughing at my parents yearbook photos in the same manner my kids were laughing at mine!

You know old when...your kids are shocked there was no internet, cell phones etc when you were in high school and college.  And you listened to records, what are those??

You know you are getting old when...you look at your hands and realize they are looking like your mother's hands.

when the clothes you wore as a young man are back in style and 20 year olds are refuring to the styles as the new look...same with music...old songs being recycled and young dejays dont know they are remakes from 20 plus old groups!

not old, but when I realized I wasn't a kid anymore.  Beauty and the Beast was my favorite Disney and I was so excited when they re-released it at the Imax with an extra scene.  It was only when I got there that I realized it was a re-release for the 10th aniversary!  I remeber seeing it in the theaters the first time.

I used to process insurance agents for my company and I remember when I saw the first one when the birthdate was in 1989.  I swore it must have been a typo, did the math and realized this infant truely was old enough to legally sell insurance.  That was a bit of a harsh reality check

You know it really REALLY ticked me off when I got my first copy of the AARP magazine about two days after my big 5-0 birthday, but.......... since then, I found them to be a wonderful company with lots of very good information and benefits for members.

So I joined........  and now I'm saving money on my homeowners insurance, life insurance and I have a dental plan for the first time in years.

Yep. I just told my hubby to join (he got an ap a while back), as I could have possibly gotten a discount on the hotel reservations I just made. There seem to be lots of benefits!

Who cares, it's just a number!

You know you're old when,

you go clothes shopping and the "latest style" is exactly what you used to wear a few decades ago.

No way, now that made me feel old!!!

I feel old finding out pegged jeans are coming back in style and vests.
I feel old seeing the little flower girl (who was 3yrs) in my wedding is now in middle school!
Also, the kids I use to babysit (when I was in hs) are now in college.
When kids know more about technology than you do!
Lastly, when I see a young 19 yr olds, I wish I had their skin, waaaah! LOL

You start complaining about the music and haircuts of "kids these days"

I'm only 25, and I swear, once I caught myself doing that, I felt so OLD!

You see a clip about the VMAs on CNN and you and your SO repeatedly say "Who is that?" "Have you ever heard this song?" "Is this what kids are listening to these days?"

When I was 20 - I starred in a production of Wizard of Oz (Glinda the Good Witch).  Children were cast as Munchkins.  I sometimes see/read about some of these former Munchkins in the media - receiving accolades when graduating from Medical School, becoming TV personalities/newscasters/journalists, etc.  Makes me feel ancient - and like I seriously underachieved.

Combine 1 stick melted butter and 2 cups graham cracker crumbs. Press in greased 9x13 pan. On top, layer 1 package chocolate chips, 1 package peanut butter chips, 1 12oz can lightly salted peanuts. Top with 1 small can sweetened condensed milk (I use fat free big deal!). Bake at 350 for 25 minutes (the edges should be bubbly). I recommend not cutting them until the next day because it seems to take that long for the graham cracker bottom to really harden.

LOL, that is me!  Sometimes in the celebrity ring thread, I can't figure out who was famous that got engaged!  Like the guy Mariah Cary married, I still don't know who he is

I was watching Saved by the Bell this morning with my 8 year old daughters, and Zach was talking on this HUGE MONSTER early 80's cell phone...the kind that was the size of a handmixer with a big antenna sticking out of the top. My daughters were like "what's he doing", I said he's talking on a cell phone.  They said "where is it?". After I explained that is what a cell phone used to look like, and mommy had one, and was super cool because hardly anyone even had a cell phone back then...they both looked at each other and then laughed (at me!) for about 10 minutes.

For me, it was when I looked at the cover of Spin magazine a few months ago and had no idea who was on the cover.  I came of age furing the grunge era, early 90s, and majored in music business & management in college.  I also worked as a manager for several alternative rock bands in Boston.  I was all about the underground music scene, and totally up to speed on what was good, who would be hot, etc.

I do, however, feel entitled to say that all the newer top 20 type stuff they play on rock stations now is total crap.  Especially becuase 1/2 of what they play is nirvana, soundgarden, stone temple pilots, etc., band swho were big in the early 90s - if there was enough good music coming out these days, they wouldn't be rehashing all the great music from 15 years ago.

The one that hits me is that my students (who are in college) were in 6th grade when 9/11 happened. They don't remember Columbine, Waco, the World Trade Center bombings, Oklahoma City, or anything about Bill Clinton's presidency.

Every year Beloit College makes a "mindset list" to remind faculty about the generation they're working with - here's the link for the class of 2012:

You know you are getting old when......

"our" song is now being on commercials to sell chocolate, Wheat Thins, and something else that I'm too old to remember right now.  ("I'll stop the world and melt with you" by Bad English, circa 1985)

I figured I'd better jump back in and post on topic since I think I scared everyone with my last post.
