I got a call from the bridal shop this morning that my dress came in! I managed to convince my mom to take a long lunch and come with me so I could try it on. I've been waiting 5 months for it, and I leave for Italy a month from tomorrow so I've been just a tiny bit anxious for it to come in. My first fitting is next Thursday, and I already have my veil (plain chapel length) but I didn't bring it with me because I already felt silly bringing my shoes and other stuff when I didn't even have a fitting.

My dress is Sottero and Midgley SSM5154-JK. When I ordered the dress I wasn't planning to wear the jacket at all but now I'm thinking I might wear it at least part of the time. I'm very self-conscious about my arms (flabby , in my eyes at least).

It's a little too big in the waist and hips, so it's sliding down a bit in these photos, but overall I'm pretty happy. I'm glad that I spoke up though and didn't let them order the next size up! (The woman who measured me chose a size 16 based on the wrong size chart, and I called back a few days later to have them check. Sure enough, they were wrong and I needed a 14.)

I'd love to hear opinions on the dress, the jacket, and also the pearls that FI bought me to wear for the wedding. I'd like honest opinions, but perhaps not too honest and critical because I've already bought the dress (obviously) and there is no way I can be a two dress bride, haha. But I would like to get an idea of how people feel about the jacket, especially. I like it, but I'm not sure if that's more because I like being covered up or what.

Thanks for looking!

I think you look gorgeous.  Actually, I don't think you need worry about your arms, etc.  This is a very detailed dress; and I wonder if the jacket would just make it a bit 'too busy'?  It really does look fabulous on you.

I take it back. . . didn't see the jacket first time around.  You look wonderful!  Both ways!  Do both.

I'm glad you guys like the jacket. I was worried it would be too much, but after seeing them together I think it works.

Thanks so much for you kind comments, bee*, HollyS and BizouMom!

It's a beautiful dress!  I think it looks terrific with or without the jacket.  I don't think the jacket makes it look too busy.  It's lovely

Ooo....lovely dress.
Love everything about it-- from the style to the intricate bead work down to the train.

Both looks are great, but I love how it look with the jacket because it makes you look slimmer on the shoulder.

You look fabulous in it! The jacket looks great on you as well. I think it could be worn either way and look awesome, but don't feel like you *have* to cover up- it looks great without it, too!

I've got to echo the other girls and say, number one, that you will make a beautiful bride. And number two, you work it, girl! Please wear it with the jacket AND without. Both looks are so fantastic, don't let hubby-to-be miss out in seeing you in either.

Yay, how exciting!

honestly, it's beautiful, but i think the fluttery part of the sleeves on the jacket would get annoying when trying to eat or cut the cake, etc, so i'm voting jacket for ceremony, then ditch it for the reception. that being said, you look gorgeous!!!

Ditto.  I love the jacket -- it makes your dress look more unique, sets off the pearls nicely, and even seems to make you smile!  But you look lovely either way so going without some or all of the time is definately an option.

Wow, you all are so sweet! Thank you so so much, risingsun, misspinky, miraclesrule, lili, joflier, SarahLovesJS, WishfulThinking, somehowcollide, shimmer, claudinam, doodle, and MINIMS!

I definitely plan on wearing the jacket now that you all have confirmed that it looks good. My only concern is how it will look with a veil. I think that the dress + jacket + veil might be too much, so I may wear the jacket for the reception only and wear my veil for just the ceremony. I'll be sure to try my veil on with the jacket next week, and get a few pictures.

I do agree with some of you though that the sleeves may be somewhat annoying when I'm trying to eat so maybe I'll take it off at certain parts during dinner (it's going to be a long dinner, and I think it will work during some courses better than others). I can play it by ear though and see how things go the night of.

I'm definitely a lot more comfortable with my appearance when I have it on, which makes me think it may be worth the hassle when I expect pictures to be taken. Even though I'm sure most people won't think my arms look fat without the jacket, that's the first thing I tend to notice in any photos (besides my face looking fat) and it makes me cringe. I don't want to look back on my wedding pictures and be disappointed because I think I look fat in all of them, you know?
