Does anyone know the width of the Tiffany classic solitaire setting? Thanks.

I think they have 3mm, 4.5mm and 6mm. Personly I like the 6mm one, heavy and elegant.

There are different widths? I thought the knife edge came in one width only. Does anybody know about this? I've only seen it in one size in the stores.

I'm pretty sure the classic solitaire comes in a 2.5mm width at approximately 1 carat. But, I think the width increases as the carat weight goes up. So it depends what size of stone you're interested in. I'm sure some proud Tiff owners could chime in...

I have a small stone (less than a half-carat) and my band is very thin. I've never measured it, but I think it's a little less than 2mm. The knife-edge wedding band is slightly thicker than my e-ring's band. Interesting that they get thicker as the stone gets bigger -- it makes sense because they try to keep the proportions the same on each ring, but I'd just never thought about it before!

I contacted the local Tiffany store and asked them; their answer was exactly what a previous poster said: the band depends on the stone weight. His exact words were, "the band is adjusted to best accommodate the stone's size and weight."

I mostly see something like 2.2, 2.5 on Signed Pieces. Maybe for large (like 2 ct stones) it would be more like 2.7/2.8?

It is a knife edge - when we were shopping we were told that they vary the width of the knife edge according to the size of the stone. She said that the smaller the diamond the sharper/thinner the knife edge. In other words, a small diamond has a very sharp knife edge/thinner width ("razor sharp thin!" I think is the phrase she used for smaller diamonds) than a larger stone which is proportionally wider (and not quite as sharp). That was a question I always wondered with the superbcert replica that no one seemed to know the answer to (and I never contacted them to ask)- I wondered if they varied the knife edge also in relation to stone size. HTH.

Very interesting. I am wondering if I should get a 2.5 or 3mm setting for a 1.37 stone. Any thoughts? I'm using Mark Morrell if that helps. I saw his flame setting in person the other day and it was really thin, too thin for my taste. The measurement was less or close to 2.5 (more like 2.2ish) which I guess would be his petite version. His regular version is 3mm.

I had it narrowed down, it's about 2.2mm I believe, and I have a 1.82ct stone. I originally had a 1.59ct RB in the setting when it was 2.5mm and for me it was a tad heavy for that size stone. So my vote would be to go for 2.5, not 3, but that is just my opinion.

I would personally for that size stone go 2.5mm or smaller, I have the same size stone that is currently being set and we chose a 1.8mm shank. I tried on a 3mm band on my finger and it looked a little bit to thick for my liking. Something to consider as well is that your FF will most likely wear a wedding band and possibly an eternity band along with this ring which adds to the thickness as well. __________________________________________________________ ![]() Sometimes if your really lucky all your dreams do come true ............... |

Smooleys, here's what I've got as for pics: 1.59ct on WF's classic tiffany knife edge which is said to be 2.5mm http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=63994 1.82ct on same setting that I had shaved down a tad during the stone change, was told 2.2mm as that was as far as WF felt comfortable reducing the band width. http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=78751&pageNo=2 (pictures down on paige 2 and page 5 I believe).

It definitely seems that people prefer the thinner 2.5 width. Would your advice change if I told you she doesn't like thin bands? Not to confuse everyone, but I try to get new info from my FF whenever possible. She made a comment about not liking thin bands. With that in mind, I might opt for the 3mm. Would you?

That certainly changes things, I'm ALL about going with what the lucky lady prefers. It won't be "the classic tiffany" look IMO with a 3mm band and a 1.37ct stone, just the proportions seem off from "the original", but it doesn't mean it won't be beautiful.
