I'm bidding farewell to my cushion tomorrow and sending it off to Leon for a solitaire setting.  I can't ask my FF anymore about rings (he thinks I'm obsessed!) and know one else knows we're doing this.  Fellow PS'ers, please... help me figure out what solitaire setting to get.

I got a quote for this one:  http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=315

I like how it's dainty but wish I could see a profile shot of it.  I'm thinking it looks like this:  http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=418, which I'm not quite crazy about.

I prefer the profile of this one:  http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=65

But what do you think about this head:  http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=410

Sorry, I don't mean to sound so insane.  Would love to hear your thoughts/suggestions.  Thanks!!!

Hi panda, how exciting!

One thing you need to realize, if you don't, is that the first setting is a Cathedral type, with the metal coming up on the sides. The profile you prefer is an entirely different look. I like it, I'm just saying, make sure you realize you can't incorporate the Cathedral and the other. If it's just the daintiness you like about the first, I would have your guy tell Leon that you want the 888 style, but very dainty.

I personally don't care for the last, but that's just me. Get what you like!

If you express it you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid... for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things....

The business of the New York journalist is to distort the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and sell his country and race for his daily bread, or for what is about the same thing, his salary. You know this, and I know it and what foolery to be toasting an 'independent press.' We are tools, and the vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the strings and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives, our possibilities, all are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

I don't have a preference but I will say this....your interaction with Leon will work best if you KNOW what you want. You do NOT want to be ambiguous with Leon. One of you needs to meet with him face to face and go through his design books, OR you need to pick a ring from the pictures on his website.

To try to throw ideas around via email or telephone leaves room for miscommunications. The more you try to describe a deviation from an existing design over the phone, the more likely someone is going to get confused.

I don't have any suggestions but whatever you choose will be gorgeous!!!  I can't wait to see it finished!  The one you got a quote for is very elegant!

I browsed through the catalogue AGAIN, and think this is what I'm thinking of:  http://www.artofplatinum.com/4images/details.php?image_id=431&mode=search  Does anyone here have this one?  Most of the Leon solitaires I've seen have been in the cathedral style.

Ellen, thanks for your thoughts!  I read your diplomatic review of your experience with Leon and am proceeding with caution.  He has been very responsive to my emails and I hope that this process will go smoothly.  Did you and your hubby settle the ironing board debate?

CDNinNYC, I love your ring!  Our cushions are almost exactly the same in length and size.  http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=93119

PP, thanks for the warning, I'll definitely heed it.

Thanks for your responses, Brightstone and Skippy!

Beautiful cushion! Just tell him you want a solitaire setting and tell him to copy r1005 and specify no cathedral shank. Once you get the work order, you can specify shank, height of the stone that's being set, number of claws, delicate look or not, etc.,

Welcome!

I sincerely hope your experience is nothing but smooth. And of course we got it settled, I'm right and he's wrong.

Can't wait to see your ring!

My first choice would be bostonjeff's:

http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=62389

and my second choice would be sopranos's:

http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=71222   her ring would only be second choice because you may have trouble finding a wedding band for it that you like ( I love her set!!!!!!)

So that's the design you settled on?  What is the size of your diamond?

Yup, I'm getting that design. I love the simplicity and elegance of it. I kept going back and forth about whether I wanted pave, as I started off this whole e-ring journey when I laid my eyes on the Tiffany Novo. But I tried on the Novo and with the wedding band, I think it's a bit too blingly for my small hands. My FF loved the way the Tiffany solitaire looked on me so I think a solitaire is the way to go. After a lot of research on various types of solitaires, I just found that Leon's work made me swoon. Besides, I figure I'll have a lot more choices in wedding bands with a solitaire.

I have a 1.52 cushion. I'll definitely share some pix when I get it back!
