I still am having doubts about the dress I bought so I went out with my mom to look for more and found a maggie sottero that I really like but it is made out of satin rather than taffeta or silk. Do you think satin looks cheap?

No. I think there are many different levels of satin from the yucky kind children's halloween costumes are made out of to the nice kind used by bridal designers like Maggie Sottero. I doubt most people would be able to tell just by looking at you if your dress was silk or satin.

The dress is really pretty but slippery like you would expect from Satin. However, I do really like it. It is the Maggie Sottero Vivien!

I think it really depends on the quality of the satin. I've seen some that look cheap, but I've also seen a TON that look gorgeous!

Satin is nice for those with perfect figures. Even the tiniest tummy bump will look ginormous in satin.

I have a toooooon lumpy bumps but this dress actually looked amazing on...surprisingly, possibly because of the corset back? My mom tied me up pretty tightly!

That dress is very chic and gorgeous!! I love it, it looks very old Hollywood...my dress is similar in that vintage glamour way. I love it!! I don't think it looks cheap at all, it's hard to say without actually seeing the satin in person, but I think the gown is gorgeous and would be very flattering!!

Thanks! I really love it the store had removed the sleeves from the dress and I think it might lose something that way. It is also pictured in the color pearl but I would get in in diamond white.

I agree, I think the straps really add something special!! I love the pearl color, but that's just my opinion. My dress is ivory so I'm obviously partial :D

That dress is gorgeous - I love the glamourous feel to it. . . Not cheap-looking at all! Where are the pics of you IN the dress?

Gorgeous dress!

Sorry to thread-jack, but it's related. Has anyone seen the difference between Maggie's silk and taffeta? The dress I'm interested in comes in 2 options with a difference in price of $400-or-so. But none of the shops around me have the taffeta version for me to see in person.

No, I don't think satin looks cheap.  My dress was full satin and I think I looked pretty hot.     I think that Maggie Sottero is beautiful!

Is your wedding indoors or outdoors? One thing I was concerned about with my dress was that it would keep me a bit hot - especially because I was planning on a garden wedding.  It was fine on the day (it rained a bit), but that's something to think about, if you're considering an outside wedding.

Hudson, I have seen the silk vs the taffeta in Maggie. The natural silk is kinda heavy but I think they only use in in the sottero midgley gowns and the ritz silk its quite light and lovely although it is hard to tell the difference between the two.

SHA- the ceremony will be outdoors and the wedding reception indoors but it will be June. Would you mind posting pictures of your dress?

I think the satin would be lovely, and the dress is gorgeous. My dress is satin, and it's from DB; the satin is actually a very nice quality and feels awesome, and doesn't look cheap at all. At least I don't think so. I'm sure the Maggie satin is very good quality. I wish we could see pictures! How sad that they don't allow them.

Thanks girls, I guess I was always used to trying on silk and taffeta gowns and when I tried the satin I was a little taken aback because it was the first dress in that material that I tried on. I hope to see some pictures of dresses in Satin on real brides.

I prefer a satin that doesnt have a lot of sheen because of how it photographs (however, the photographer should be able to handle this --- on pro pics might look "off " though).

Robbie your dress looks really rich and beautiful but you had a winter wedding correct? I don't know whats wrong with me but do you think satin is all wrong for a summer wedding?

I think its a stunning dress Allie.  If you love it then you should go for it.  And then show us photos if you are brave enough!! Maybe the store will let you photograph it once you commit to buying it.  After all you need to remember how it looks so you can buy accessories!!

Thanks! We actually got married on September 8th and it was actually pretty hot out. Satin is definitely hotter than silk, but I think you're going to be hot either way. One thing that helped me to not overheat was that I had a hoop skirt on under my dress. Even if you don't want your dress to be nearly as poofy as mine a hoop skirt can help. Most of them are completely adjustable so you can make them just big enough to keep all of the material off of your legs.
