Maybe the Olympics is getting to me, but I have been curious about this for a long time.

I'd love to hear the race/ethnicities/nationalities that are represented here on PS. I've seen a few people talk about where they are from, and I've seen some avatars.

(yes, I know the whole, race is a social construct thing, I am really just asking about self identification in a "pride inducing" way )

I will start, I hope others will join me :)

I am a Black American in the US

i am MUTT :)
actually, irish, english and german with a hint of croatia. which makes sense for my freckles, pale skin and ability to pull off any hair color but black! :)

but as far as family goes, american, daughter of rev. war style (farmers and preachers + two foreign translators). should have banked in on that scholorship! :)

I'm Irish and Italian - American born and bred. My mom was the first generation born in the US.

DH is 100% Dutch - moved to America 10 years ago, but he has retained his Dutch citizenship. and he'll continue to do so. Holland doesn't allow its citizens to take on dual citizenship, so he'll be a Dutchman forever.

I am Italian and Irish and was born and raised in the U.S. My great-grandparents immigrated here, so I guess that makes me a 3rd (or is it 4th?) generation American.

So I'm not that diverse, I'm afraid!

I am Heinz 57... I am mostly Irish, with English, Scottish, Native American, and Italian mixed in. Needless to say, I have pale skin and freckles and can't really be in the sun for more than 10 minutes without burning like a fork in a microwave! Oh... I live in the good ol' US of A.
BTW- I am like 100th generation or something... Some of my ancestors came over here on the Mayflower!

My family is actually an interesting mix...Mom's side goes back to the Mayflower, English and Irish (but her dad is first generation American, from the Ukraine). Dad's family is from Norway and Hungary. I was born in the States but lived half of my life in Southeast Asia, which makes me more of a cultural mutt than anything.

Oh my gosh, I am so mutt American whitebread it hurts. None of my family kept any ethnic practices, which also kinda sucks.

ETA: I realize there is nothing wrong with being "mutt American" so I hope this isn't offensive. Maybe just a joke in poor taste?

Great thread! Love reading about everyone's backgrounds.

I'm 1/2 Vietnamese and 1/2 American. My dad met my mom during the vietnam war. He's originally from Canada and traces back to the UK (Welsh on his dad's side and English on his mom's side) but became an american citizen when he was 14.

I guess that makes me a first generation American! I currently live in California.

I am third-generation American on my dad's side, second on my mom's. My entire family is from Berlin, Germany.

We're also Jewish, and while it isn't a racial identity, it's a large part of who I am.

Cool thread!

I'm an adopted American, and I have no idea where my *blood* is from.

I do have blue eyes and light brown hair though. So take that for what it's worth.

I would definitely just consider myself "American" however I am 25% polish and 25% russian. I don't know the other 50% because my mom was adopted.

ETA: I was raised Jewish, while not a "race" is a huge part of my family's culture. Much to their dismay, I'm an atheist.

I'm English and live in London - although I have a good dose of Scots in there and a touch of German Jewish.

My husband is half German Jewish and half English and comes from Birmingham, UK.

Our families range from ultra-orthodox Jewish through Scottish Presbyterian, High-Church Anglican, Liberal Anglican and Atheist with a large number of ministers/vicars in the mix.

We're both Secular Humanists/Atheists.
