How long does it typically last?

I haven't ever gotten one before, but I want to get bikini and legs done for my wedding/honeymoon cause otherwise I'd have to shave every day and my skin gets irritated and red and bumpy.

If I go at the beginning of the week before the wedding, will it stay through the honeymoon? Or should I go like 2 days before the wedding?

I'd say a week and a half for bikini and 2 for legs. The thing is it groes back sparsely so shaving is clean for at least another week after that.

As far as how soon before is concerned... Not sure when your wedding is but if you have time do a trial run you should do one. Some people get little irritation pimples from waxing. They go away fairly quickly. try it and see if you get any and how long they last and then base it on that.

I have almost black hair and skin that's almost see through. Waxing lasts about 3 weeks for me and about 4 weeks before it has to be done again.

Forgot to say, don't get it done for the first time for the wedding. Go a couple of times before that. Different skin reacts differently and you don't want to be shocked for your wedding.

I don't have time to go before the wedding (I don't think).  My wedding is less than 5 weeks away!  EEk!

Then maybe don't get it done right before your wedding. The week of, like you said.

When I get a bikini wax the area goes bright red for the next day or two. Not cute, semi-noticable blush, but red and slightly swollen and sensitive to the touch. When I get an upper lip wax my skin quits being red right away but I sometimes get a zit the next day.

If you go a few days ahead of time you should have time adjust to whatever your skin throws at you and still be smooth. And, um, take a half dose to a dose of pain killers about 30 minutes ahead of time if you can.

Not that you asked, I'm just blabbering away over here.

No, I'll take all the advice I can get!

Um, how long do I have to let it grow out before I can get it waxed? Should I stop shaving 1 week before or 2?

I'm also the black hair/white skin coloring, and my eyebrows usually stay red about a half a day to a day after threading. Will waxing be the same?

Can you tell I'm nervous?

I'd stop shaving long before that. My lady (who I trust A LOT) said 4-6 weeks before the first time. So basically, now.

Also, ditto taking the painkillers - about 30-40 minutes beforehand, and it makes a HUGE difference.

And I'd do it at least 3-4 days before your wedding, so if there is any serious irritation you have time for it to go down...

I got a bikini wax for the first time last month!  The lady said it had to be 1/4" long to adhere properly... I'm not sure about legs though.  It should be about the same.  I didn't take any painkillers beforehand and was scared to death but it really wasn't NEARLY as bad as I was expecting.  I have thick dark hair and light skin but I don't notice much redness with eyebrow waxing so I can't really comment on that.  I do know my waxing lasted about 3 weeks.

I get brazilians(all hair down there gone) all the time (sorry if TMI), and I need to let it grow 3-5 weeks. It needs to be LONG, if it is too short, the hair will not come out... Also, ask your salon to use hard wax if possible, it only adheres to the hair and not your skin so it hurts less...and THRITTO on taking the painkillers at least 30 min before. Also, if it's before your period, your skin will swell and stay red for a lot longer, try and do it the week after.

I've gotten my legs waxed before and found it was not worth it. Your hair grows in cycles so when it is waxed, the next cycle is growing, doesn't get ripped out, and therefore you still have stubble. My legs were not as smooth as I would have wanted and it hurt like hell!! Brazilians don't hurt that bad, it honestly felt like someone was slapping my legs so hard, it stung A LOT

I only do eyebrows and that lasts about 3 weeks but my hair grows super fast.  I also recommend taking 2 motrin before you go.  If I do that, it barely hurts and is not red after.  If I forget, ouch!  And it gets red and swollen for an hour or two after so its embarrasing looking if I run into people after.

Hey Basil,

Bummer that you don't have time for a 'trial run'.  I second all those who said that that is ideal.  I can't wax my bikini line b/c I get too many ingrowns, no matter what.  If you have sensitive skin (ie red for a while) be aware of that!  I use a depiliatory cream and it lasts about as long as a wax for me.

Waxing my legs lasts about 4-5 weeks.  The calves show earlier than the upper leg.  I would say don't shave for at least 2 weeks if you can-the longer the hairs the better the result.  Take a razor anyway because sometimes your first wax is not as 'clean' a week later compared to regular waxing.

Second the idea of taking pain killers before-esp for your first bikini!  Make sure you have checked the bathing suit etc you are going to wear so you know how much you want off!

I'm glad that you said that about leg waxes. They don't tend to work for me either. I have no idea why, everything else does.
