Do you have insurance on your colored items?

Is a $1,500 ring worth insuring?

Thanks.

I plan to, and yes, unless you aren't especially attached to the ring and feel ok replacing it. I am already attached to my spinel and I don't even have it yet, and I would be so hurt if it cracked or got lost.

I have insurance on everything.

Anything up to $3k is covered on my home-insurance and anything worth over that is as a global all-risks rider.

I keep photos and all receipts in case I need to claim, as I don't want any old stone that happens to be of the same species.

I have a separate policy on any of my pieces that are $1000 and over.

IMHO a $1500 dollar ring is not worth insuring.  My insurance is $100 a year per $10,000 so I have my $5300 alexandrite covered.  But nothing I own under $5000 is covered.  I think that if I pay say $600 a year for everything, and over 10 years nothing is taken then I wasted $6000 that I could have spent on more jewelry. So I cover $10,000 worth of jewelry.  And in all reality I can stretch $10,000 and recover about $50,000 of jewelry thru estate sales, pawn shops, ebay, ect. if needed.  Just my thoughts....
