Man, I never thought that finding the ring would be so stressful and unnerving. But I just want to make sure I am headed in the right direction hunting down the engagement ring.... Through various late night conversations with friends and recently married couples, I've been able to obtain a pretty good idea of her "perfect" ring. Info I've received: Cut, Color, Clarity are very high on the list with Carat size pretty far below. Shape: Round She likes a simple, classic look to the ring. Doesn't want a real skinny band (thinks it will look odd on her hand). Does not want a three stone setting but would rather have side stones (like a channel setting). Well I've been to a local jewler who has worked with almost every male in our family during their engagement process. He was able to show me a couple diamonds that I thought would work wonderfully. But I find myself doubting everything....my confidence is almost 0 whenever I leave anywhere because I want to make sure it's perfect. In the beginning I was headed the RB with two pear side stones route....until I found out that she didn't really like the three stone setting. ![]() So far I've seen many 1.0-1.25 ct. RB all colorless and VVS1-VS1. They all look gorgeous (but what do I know...I'm definetly a diamond newbie). My budget will ultimately decide the size of the center stone...but my problem is the setting. There is one that I really like...and closest I can find a picture of is the one from WF that I posted below. Primary difference is that the setting I've found has diamonds running up all three sides of the ring with two small hearts engraved just under the stone. I'll try to get a picture of the setting this week...but the WF one below is pretty close. http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/X-Prong-with-Channel-Setting_987.htm# So I guess in the end....I need help from all the pros on here. I want a beautiful setting that she can cherish forever....can anyone help a nervous newbie?? |

Through various late night conversations with friends and recently married couples, I've been able to obtain a pretty good idea of her 'perfect' ring. My budget will ultimately decide the size of the center stone...but my problem is the setting. Unless you or your GF really want VVS clarity, then VS is still great quality and should be eyeclean. Of course if you prefer VVS then that is fine. Colour, of course if you want a D E or F grade to go with the clarity that is fine, but G colour can still look extremely white as another option. If you prefer to buy from a jeweller rather than online, get the proportions of each diamond such as - depth % table % crown angle pavilion angle girdle thickness diameter measurement fluorescence if applicable and report back, then we can help you evaluate each diamond. Also to make finding a great cut easier, see if you can look at some AGS0 and GIA Excellent cut grade diamonds. Also post the pic of the setting when you get it! ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. When a horse dies, the memory lives on because an enormous part of his owner's heart, soul, very existence dies also...but that can never be laid to rest, it is not meant to be... - Stephanie M Thorn |
