my wedding is july 2009. is 11 months too early to look at dresses for bridesmaids? i just figured since i saw one i really liked that they should see if they feel comfy in them and like them enough, too. its a beach wedding next july and this is one dress i like: bridesmaid dress do i have to worry about things like this not being available in a few months or do places like davids bridal keep the same stuff for a long time? anyone have issues of bridesmaids getting them early and then not fitting into them once the wedding comes? thanks! :) *7.25.09* |

I would say, you should definitely have them go try it on and see if it works, but I wouldn't order them yet. David's does discontinue styles, or sometimes a style changes what colors it is available in, but that is a pretty new and I think popular dress for them, so I don't think you really need to worry about that. I would wait to order for the sizing issues though, and just to be sure. ETA, I LOVE that dress for a beach wedding!

I had planned on getting mine that early, but didn't. I'm waiting until 6 months before. You can if you want to though!

What a cute dress!! I love it! My wedding is next July as well, and my bridesmaids actually just bought their dresses. We found them at Ann Taylor and they were being discontinued, so we didn't have much of a choice (and we got them for a GREAT price). I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they still fit in a year...

My wedding is October 4, and I had the girls dresses picked out and had them order by December. My friend is getting married next July as well, and she already has all of our dresses ordered AND we bought our shoes for her wedding yesterday. Its a little early, but if you know what you want, go for it! Cute dress, btw!!

I'm getting married in July too and we are actively looking and will buy as soon as we come to a consensus...go for it!

Hi DMB firedancer My wedding is july 2009 too. I just found the dresses i want for my bridesmaids and we are going at the end of the month to try on and order. I did hear that the styles change and they may not be available if i wanted. I would check with davids if that is where you are getting yours from. Did you order your dress yet?

Those dresses are very cute! And will be perfect for a beach wedding. But I think it's important to consider your girls when making this decision. First of all, are they prepared to buy the dresses? Can they afford them? Do you have any BM's that flucuate in weight? While I completely understand that you're worried about Davids Bridal discontinuing the style, I think you have a great while before they do so...and if I remember correctly, they do post clearly on their website which dresses are being phased out. I would ask your girls where they stand on the idea of buying the dresses now before you even go out looking. That way you can know, for your own peace of mind, if this is even possible. Taking the girls out to look at a dress you love (if you're not buying the dresses for them) may feel like a "hot box". Like the other women said, there is no harm in looking. If some of the girls are willing and others are not, I would hold off on ordering any. Dye lots will differ from cut to cut and with a bold color like the green, you want them to be consistant. If it were me, I would start shopping--but make it clear that you're not prepared to order. I would give my BM's time to save up (if need be) and prepare them for what the outfit will cost. IMO that would be the considerate thing to do. ____________________________ |

I would wait. Just because if the dresses are around for a long period of time, you will probably 2nd guess your decision. THat being said, I was in a wedding and the bride didn't pick the dresses until 3 months before the wedding and every store we went to treated us like that was the biggest offense ever. I would wait until 6-5 months out.

thanks everyone! i talked to them today about the points you made (especially about not needing to BUY them right now) these are my sisters - 2 of them said "oh, no...we know that...we're just so excited to go and just try them on and see how things fit and see what we like and dont like" the other was the one who still said "i dont see why i need to do this now" so i told them that if the 2 just want to go just for fun to have a nice girls night out, that would be wonderful. if the other does not want to go, she should just stay home. the 2 that go want to take pictures and send them to me (we live far away) it's very cute because they are the 2 sisters that are much younger than me- and i wasnt sure how interested they were in all this. this whole thing has really been a learning process and its also seems like a way to bond us together. i wrote in another thread about family as bridesmaids....ever since then, i noticed the 2 younger sisters getting really excited and talking to me about ideas and stuff, but the other still seems...disinterested. hopefully she will come around too back to the dresses - i told them to just have fun today with them - no pressure to buy or anything :) it makes me sad that i cant be there...i cant wait to see the pictures *7.25.09* |
