My DH has given the go ahead for me to reset my ering diamond with the caveat that this stops all of the smaller projects that I'm constantly working on. I'm not interested in upgrading my stone as I love it very much. But I've fallen in love with a Beverly K halo setting that incorporates all of the vintage features I like.

What I need help with is the sizing of the halo. My stone is a 1.4 I SI2 certified from HRD, diameter is 7.15-7.19. Pearlman's has given me a great quote in 18k white gold, and they are getting info from BevK's fabrication department about the completed dimensions. Julian said that they will probably increase the size of the halo melee in proportion to the center stone. That worries me because I don't think that bigger would necessarily mean better. I love smaller melee and the way that you see the "sparkle" and not the stones themselves. Plus I really like the effect of a tiny halo (with the space, that's one of the features I love) surrounding a bigger stone.

I guess I'd like your opinions on whether I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill? Should I not mess with the perspective and allow them to increase the melee, or should I request what I "think" I want. This would be so much more helpful if I could have Pearlman's just send the ring to try on, but the only one they have in house is currently being set with a client's stone (and Julian said it is smaller than mine, but not by how much).

I've attached the Beverley K setting, and I'll attach a picture of my diamond in its current setting too. Thanks for your help!

Here's my existing ring. The channel set melee measure 1.3mm each and I love their size.

based upon my own experience of upgrading to a halo i would recommend staying with the smaller melee. i saw the setting in a store and it looked divine, the stone really popped. but i think when they made mine they made the halo larger, and it bugs me. all i see is the halo, and my stone often looks lost. it was not the effect i was hoping for, or expecting.

ETA: beautiful setting, btw. it will be gorgeous!

agreed...should not go bigger than 1 pointers (1.3mm) if you want the delicate halo look.

I'm getting a very similar Beverly K ring from Pearlman's. And Julian is helping me as well! It's this one, but all the stones in the halo will be uniform in size. I'm having a 1.5 carat oval yellow sapphire set in it, so it's not exactly the same, but the size is close-ish, and it's a fatter/rounder oval. It should be ready sometime this week. I wonder if he could send you pictures so you could get a vague idea...?

Parrot, are they setting your oval east-west? Julian was telling me about them just finishing one like that, and he said it is beautiful. What size or dimensions is your stone and do you know what size your melee halo will be?

Yes, the east-west is me! The stone is 1.5 carats, and the dimensions are 7.11 x 6.09 x 4.13. I never thought to ask how big the melee were, though. I guess I just assumed they came in a set size...?

I just got a message from Pearlman's saying that BevK is sending them one of their samples, and then he is going to send it out to me to check the proportions of the halo, size of the band, etc. I'm so excited that they're going to let me get this beauty in my hands. What wonderful service!

You're not making a mountain out of a molehill -- I'd want smaller melee in the halo, especially since your stone is already larger. I just think small melee looks more refined and makes the center pop!
