So I finally found a contender and wanted some opinions from fellow pricescoppers. GIA cert 3.03 ct round brilliant 9.36-9.40 x 5.68 G SI2 cut = ex sym = ex pol = ex fl = none culet = none table = 57 depth = 60.6 crown = 33.5 degrees pavilion = 40.8 degrees I was able to get the price down to $36,111. My father looked at it under a scope and in various lighting settings and confirmed that it is "eye-clean" but under 10x magnification there are visible inclusions as expected and is definitely an SI2. In his opinion he said that to the naked eye you would not be able to tell the difference between this stone and a VS. Should I go for it or hold out to see if I can get a similar price on an H SI1. However, I was told that an H SI1 with similar characteristics (ideal cut, symm, pol, etc) would probably cost an extra $1000 for this size and I may not notice any difference in clarity. Please help! |

Since it's eyeclean, I would stay with the G! Looks like it should be a nice diamond, no red flags.

I am also considering this stone instead, http://www.uniondiamond.com/diamonds/diamonds.php?item_id=AA912468&search_type_id=2&action_type_id=2&network_id=0cf05810a0f83094f6e9972ef21cdd34. I will be setting the stone in a yellow gold setting and was concerned that an H will not show as well as a G. Is this a legit concern or will the difference be unnoticeable whether it is G or H and I should worry more about clarity (i.e. SI1 vs. SI2)?

Date: 8/7/2008 9:36:02 AM I think the crown and pavilion combo on the other one is safer. I'd go for that one myself, or, if you don't mind spending the money, have both sent to an independant appraiser and compare.Author: nycattny I am also considering this stone instead, http://www.uniondiamond.com/diamonds/diamonds.php?item_id=AA912468&search_type_id=2&action_type_id=2&network_id=0cf05810a0f83094f6e9972ef21cdd34. AGS cert ideal 3.01 H SI1 61.4% depth 58.3% table 41 degrees pavilion 34.9 degrees crown culet = o What do you think? G and H would both be fine in the setting. Cut is what you want to really focus on, as that's what makes the stone truly sparkle, and then of course if it's eyeclean. Good catch :) ! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

There is one more option, http://www.uniondiamond.com/diamonds/diamonds.php?search_type_id=4&action_type_id=2&item_id=AA912467&&3.00ct-H-SI1-Round-Brilliant-Cut-Diamond. AGS cert ideal 3.00 H SI1 61.6% depth 56.7% table 40.9 degrees pavilion 34.4 degrees crown culet = o I was told that this stone vs. the 3.01 GSI1 has a few more inclusions and, while the 3.01's inclusions are all white, some of the inclusions on the 3.01 are black. Nonetheless, i was told that both are eye-clean. Sorry to confuse things further. What do you think?

Just going on paper, I would place this one next to the first, hard to say. It could be better, or worse. We could give a lot better opinion if we had an IS pic and Sarin.

I don't "think" UD does IS pics, but I can't swear to that. But I know WF can give you that, and an ASET if you wanted. Yes, these are "virtual" stones, which means you can have any vendor call them in. I'd have WF bring it/them in myself.

Hi Lorelei!! Hi El!![]() NY - just to be clear the stone price I listed is the price you get if you pay by wire - that is why the price listed on the link appears higher. If you do the PS your stone link at the top of the page (under prices) - that is where it gives you the prices that we find when looking through PS. ETA - UD used to not be able to do IS as El mentioned - I haven't checked lately though

Ellen- I am going to look at a G SI2 virtually identical to the one described in my first post tomorrow. From what I have been told, I will not be able to see the difference in clarity, without a loupe, between this stone and the SI1s i am considering and apparently the cut of the stone is fantastic. I will keep you posted after I see it. I will be setting the stone in a yellow gold (HW) setting which will be flanked by two pear shaped 1/3 carat stones. That is part of the reason I like the idea of a G color rather than H because I am afraid that the yellow setting might make impact the perception of the color of the stone. Additionally, my wife plans to wear it on the same finger as her wedding band which is an eternity band made of 14 G VS1 round brilliants, each 1/3 carat, set in yellow gold.
