I'm looking for a RB diamond between 1.5 and 2 carats. I visited Tiffany & Co., a couple of 47th St. dealers, and a jeweler in CT that carries the Hearts on Fire line. When I first began my search, I was convinced that I had to have a D color VVS1 or VVS2 diamond. I saw a HoF diamond today, E color and SI1, and can now say that I would actually consider buying a "non-V" stone. It was gorgeous. The dealer showed me the diamond through the H&A scope/viewer and it was pretty wild. I could see the inclusions under the scope, but not with the naked eye and I have a pretty good eye. I was impressed. Yesterday, I saw a Tiffany diamond and have to say it was also beautiful. It was G-color, VS1 and it was so very pretty. But, the Tiffany diamond was actually less expensive which surprised me. The HoF (diamond only) was around $28k for 1.5 ct. The Tiffany (channel set) ring for the same size center stone was close to $30k, but that includes the setting. I guess it comes down to personal preference. But, I'd like to know if anyone has ever been in the same situation and what they ended up choosing. Would a Hearts & Arrows diamond from WF be just as brilliant as the Hearts on Fire diamond? Why is HoF so much more expensive? My priorities are cut, size, color, and clarity in that order.

Well, I would look at Whiteflash for sure.  I will tell you where I worked a girl had a HOF and I had my Whiteflash stone and they both were gorgeous and then another girl had a HOF and it didn't look as nice (not sure if she just didn't clean her diamond).  All I can say is that I would find a stone from WF you will save a lot of money!   Hearts on Fire charges more since they are a brand and look for H&A pattern and WF does the same thing and looks for the best cut stones in the A Cut Above so I prefer saving money.

I did a search and you can save a little over 1/2 the price for a 1.5 carat G SI1 http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-1148586.htm

and another stone D SI1

and then this one H VS1

Hi goodys,

HOF is more expensive because it's a brand, and you are paying for the name. Any very well cut H&A diamond will be beautiful, whether it has a name behind it or not, it's about the cut, not the brand.

There are many vendors that carry extremely well cut stones, WF being one, but not the only one. I just say that so it doesn't limit your choices (though they don't always have what one is looking for). Skippy found you some nice stones, and I'll throw a few more examples in the pot.

With any SI1, you always need to ask if eyeclean. On these, the bankwire price below regualr price is the discount.

(another possibility, though H, and the grading report is not up)

Any of these companies would be fine to work with, it's just a matter of who has what you decide you want/like.

HTH!

If you express it you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid... for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things....

The business of the New York journalist is to distort the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and sell his country and race for his daily bread, or for what is about the same thing, his salary. You know this, and I know it and what foolery to be toasting an 'independent press.' We are tools, and the vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the strings and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives, our possibilities, all are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

If what you want is super awesome cut quality and the name itself isn't important to you, DEFINITELY save yourself TONS of money and go with Whitelfash, or GoodOldGold, or another great internet vendor. Do some research here and you'll find LOTS of people who agree. Listen to Skippy and Ellen!!

If as Ellen said HOF is a name brand and that's why it's expensive... go with the TIffany ring.

Like sparxs111 said. Buying a tiffany would be pretty much the same as buying a HOF. Both will be great quality for a big premium because of their name. If you go with one of the recommended vendors here, you will be getting just as good-- if not better-- quality, for a much smaller price. To me it's a no brainer, but some people would rather have the name brand backing up their jewelry. That's fine too, I just can't afford it
