First you'll notice bigger picture. Post your own bigger avatar!

It should be easier to compose the posts now. Note: old IBB codes are not working anymore. You should use HTML codes, which shouldn't be a big problem with the new text editor.

Polls feature. E.g. do we like the new version?

There should be a bunch of other enhancement including more detailed help.

Let's give it a try

Poll:

Question: how do we like it

Note: This poll will begin on 9/15/2003 and end on 9/20/2003

Answers:%Votes
like it 93%25
hate it 7%2
 Total Votes:27

Leonid, I have the advantage of viewing this new version tonight since I am way behind the time zones from most others. So in the words of Carmen Electra, "do I like it or do I love it????" I LOVE IT!! Can you add that to the poll options? Hehe..

New look, fresh colors, bigger avatar for my 40+ failing eyesight. Can we build the smiley bank??

Thanks for the time you put in to upgrade to the new server. So far so good. Thanks for a great site, incase I don't say that often enough. Ooooh, and I like how the smilies don't jump to the very bottom of my post now.

Nevermind - answered my own question!

For anyone else who wants to know it's 128x128 pixels. I right clicked on one of the Custom Avatars he made, and clicked on Properties and found out! I amaze myself everyday I tell you!

Only one comment...I much prefer the silvery color header, as on this page, rather than the blue on the home page.

*grin*

It's merely my opinion, bu I think this header looks more 'polished'.

Wow, Leonid! I am impressed by your *speed*. I had thought we'd need an alternate site for our use today, but you are up and running! Great job! Now I really need to pick a photo for my avatar. I can't have your stock one sitting there now that you have given each one so much more space!

Leonid,

Your dog avatar is much more user friendly.

I think your old avatar should be held in reserve for when it *needs* to come out.

If anyone needs more smilies, pick them at MySmilies.com or clicksmilies.com and then let me know which one you'd like to have.

Cool! The new big avatar size is fun.

Although I seem to be having trouble inserting a smiley by clicking on it.

DancinGirl -- I clicked on your avatar photo to get the resolution and I saw you are from the coast of New Hampshire. Ever been to Newick's???

But of course!!! I actually grew up in MA and we would come up to Newicks with the family every summer (in North Hampton) That one has since closed, but there is still one in Dover. I have lived here now for 5 years. I personally don't eat seafood much - but it was my parent's and grandparents' favorite!

Why do you ask?

Hest, I just may need a lesson on how to use these codes. I am sooooo technically challenged with them. BTW I like the way your avatar *really* stands out now that it's bigger.

My GF (soon to be fiancee?!?) has relatives in that area. This summer we bought fresh lobsters at the one in Dover and boiled them up...delicious. But...their clam chowder is what I love. Anyway, I commented on incredibly busy they were there, and was told that it was a local institution. I figured you must have heard of it!

I may be the only one but I find the avatars TOO darn big. I don't necessarily want a big 128x128 picture of whoever's post I am reading in my line of vision the entire time. It's almost scary. The old ones were a little too small, but IMO these are a little too big. My poor little Buttercup looks like she is going to claw your face.

128x128 sizing should be saved for ad space!

However the rest of the stuff is VERY COOL and I love the ease of use. Great job Leo....

OH and I wanted to add too that I love the poll idea in this post, and think that the site itself could benefit from weekly polls run.. it would be fun to run some polls like 'If money was no object, would you want a Tiffany diamond' and 'What matters more, size or cut' and 'What size is the perfect upgrade diamond' etc...some of the questions that people ask alot around here. We get SO many new people per day and per week (check the logins when you login and you will see there are something usually like 30 reg members and 300 anonymous!) that it would be great to have some sort of sampling of people's thoughts over a week to refer to in later posts and/or to have posted somewhere on the site so that people could review it.

Wow...everything's so much more...refined. The avatars ARE maybe a little overwhelming at first...this is the first forum I've seen with 128x128 avatars. How about 96x96?...or maybe I can fit 4 avatars at 64x64 into one.

I do agree, the avatars are so big, that a one line answer or post uses up too much white space ... if that makes any sense!

The avatars are DEFINITELY too big......I'd like to see them drop to 96x96.

Also, while I love the new format, I'm frustrated with the sssllllllloooooooooooowwwww loading and frequent error pages I'm getting.  A good deal of the time (especially at night), I cannot even get into the forum because the page takes more than 4 minutes to load!  UGH.

Stylistically, I really like it, but if it means the lag in getting in, I'd rather sacrifice something....anything...to make it faster.

Oh, I don't know--I kind of like the big avatars. It's nice to see the details of people's faces, gemstones, kids, etc. Seems friendly to me.

Oh, look--while I was posting, they shrank. Well, okay, but I liked the big ones. Maybe it's my middle-aged eyes.

Yes this is much better Leo...I don't feel assaulted by people's avatars any longer!

Speaking on the slowness, I was experiencing alot of lag time last nite as well...about a minute to load a page...very frustrating when I just want to sit down and answer a few posts in a few minutes. I have DSL so it wasn't the connection.
