A picture is worth a thousand words ... cushion question

Also, can I tell by this picture if the stone has chunky facets? It is a square cushion brilliant. Thanks in advance, Rye

azbuyer Cut Rock Total Posts: 119 Last Post: 11/20/2008 Member Since: 6/17/2008	I dont see a windmill or a bow tie. Windmills are pretty obvious - i just saw one yesterday and it looks like a huge cross in the center under the table. Bow ties are fairly natural in cushions but I dont see one - at least in this angle that the picture was taken. They tend to be very common in Ovals, etc. The cushion bow tie sometimes really isnt a bow tie but just 2 opposing facets naturally reflecting something dark in the room. As for crushed ice, i dont see that either and typically you need a "cushion modified brilliant" facet pattern to get pure crushed ice although I have seen cushions with some ice under the table that were cushion brilliants.

It should be an 8 pavillion cut. Although, I have yet to see my diamond in person, the diamond is chunky and has lots of fire. You can check my GOG video here. I'm eagerly awaiting its arrival on Tuesday. This is going to be a long weekend! By the way, did you purchase one of those diamond in the GOG video?

Anyways, I ended up purchasing the 1.57 diamond (fourth in the video). It was a tough call because I had Jonathan from GOG bring in both the 1.61 and the 1.57 (both stones I actually found on Blue Nile). My first inclination was to go with the 1.61, but upon further review of the video, the 1.57 was super white, and had excellent brilliance and fire. Furthermore, the 8 pavillion is a rarer cut for cushions, so that also appealed to me.

I can only hope ours is a smaller version with all the same sparkle. We bought it from ERD; Mark T. told us it was a beautiful stone. His reputation is highly regarded on this site so we have high hopes. Congratulations!
