Dear Readers,

I have been known to scour pawn shops to buy diamonds. Call me thrifty, whatever you like, but I found a great deal. A 1.44 carat Oval diamond, clarity about Si-1 or higher, color F to G (this rating was done with a local jeweler who helped me with the color scales of actual sample colors) but it had a chip on it. I bought it anyway, it was STUNNING!

Recently, I sent it to Schumaker diamond cutters and later found a post on Pricescope about Schumaker too!  They said they would just fix the chip with little to no carat weight loss! (stone is going from a 1.44 to a 1.40 carat weight). They let me choose between a minor chip repair or a full recut.  I chose the repair.  I can't believe there are actual diamond cutters who will address your needs without having to go through a "middle man."  What a cost savings! To get the chip repaired it only cost me $125.00 plus shipping (around 30.00 for registered mail).  Awesome!!! :)  They deserve some applause!!!!!!

The trouble is now that my "lady" is fixed I need a new setting for her.  I want a bezel set in 14kt yellow gold.  (I am NOT a white gold/platinum kind of person).  Does anyone know where I can buy a semi mount with diamonds (maybe channel set) for a reasonable price?

Thanks

Are you wanting a bezel set halo, or just a simple bezel setting with a diamond shank? Here is a pretty yellow gold bezel set halo from Pearlman's: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/jane-taylor-jewelry/rings/37L1/

I don't know how to answer your question. If a halo involves pave set diamonds, I don't want that. I want a plain bezel (strip of metal going around an oval stone)... preferably one that has a slit in the side metal to let some light shine through? Also, I would like diamonds just down the sides, but small ones, maybe channel set or baguettes? Thanks!
