Hello ladies!
I went to a wedding a while back ($23,000 was the damage in a very very small town in iowa for this wedding)
and at the recption there was white mini-lights and beautiful drapery everywhere.  I decided then and there that it set a great mood and I had to have something done like that at my wedding.

Now, fast forward to planning my wedding.  The damage for me to have it done isn't bad, but total it's going to be about $900.00, which isn't a ton of money...but I'm thinking about it, and my florist cost is about 1500.00 total.  If I nix the drapery and mini lights, I could save that $$$ and that would bring it down to a more reasonable amount.  There is only close family and friends and I doubt anyone will remember any of it.  I thought about doing it myself, but the hotel is very strict about hanging/etc. and she would have to do it.

I'm attaching pics of what it would look like if I paid the money.  Is it worth it?  Or should I just have tons of candles and no one will really notice?  Or should I just do the back drop behind the head table (200.00) and save the extra 550.00?

I know it's up to me, and money isnt really an issue...but if I can save it instead, it would make my FH really really happy (although he says he just wants me to be happy...but he's paying for the ENTIRE wedding by himself.  It's about 7000.00 total, which isn't a lot considering some weddings, but if I could get it down to about 6000.00 it would make him happy!)

What would you do?  Here are the pics!  Let me know what you think!

Thanks

Stephanie

Here is the other one, this total cost is 550.00.  It would be 400.00 w/o the mini lights.

Do you have any photos of the actual room your reception will be in? Personally, I find that some rooms really benefit from that sort of decoration, and others could do (sometimes better) without it. If you went without it, would you miss it being there?

It's in a hotel where they normally have business meetings.  Just a small banquet hall...the walls are ugly...everything is ugly.  It's a beautiful hotel, don't get me wrong...but they have hotel (ex. ugly teal fishy scale decor, purples, etc)  the normal hotel decor.  I hate it.  I'm hoping the lighting will be dim enough no one will notice.  I think if I went w/o it...I would miss it.  I think it just has an awe factor!

If you don't need the money terribly somewhere else, I also vote for doing it. I think it would spice up the room a bit!

Well, you said you'd miss it if it wasn't there, so I think you answered your own question .

I don't see any advantage to a wall of sheers with some Xmas lights myself. It still looks like a hotel banquet hall with some sheers in the middle of nowhere.

On the other hand, I do like the sheers that are draped across the ceiling. It's more subtle and doesn't stand out like sheers on rod with no purpose.

If you love it and can spare the cash, do it.

You sound a bit like you're justifying whether you want it based on what you think your guests will think of it. Whether they notice or not is irrelevant. YOU will notice. You will notice in your pictures. You will remember what it looked like. If it's a look you love, and it's financially possible, go for it.

yes, pic please

I only have a pic of half the room because a meeting was behind the false walls at the time I took these pics.  So please bear with me...they are horridly ugly in color, but I'll try to get them down to size!

I personally love the drape look, so if you want it and can afford it then I say do it!  Of course, the choice is yours as it's your wedding and your $$$, but I always notice when a couple goes the extra mile to decorate a venue.  It really transforms the place.

Last pic I have.  I should post pics of the hotel outside the room.  It's gorgess!  They have a waterway going thru the entire lobby with real fish and plant and water falls and fountains!  It's really neat!

I think it adds a beautiful, glowy, romantic effect to the room....especially when it is dark out.

I think that if you have the money, the ceiling drapery would look really nice in that room.  There would be too little drapery on the wall that it would just get lost.  The ceiling however would look awesome, especially with the neat light fixture the room has.

I just wanted to say, Yay Iowa!

We are doing a budget wedding (well, trying) in Iowa as well. As far as the drapery, etc.. if you are set on it, find relatives who can help you DIY. That's always an option.

Justin and I are going to save on flowers, by hopefully doing crepe paper roses ( my sister and I are crafty, and since I have 10 months, we're going to make a TON)

Just an idea. Good luck in planning your wedding!

Nah. Nobody notices that stuff. I say if a visual adornment that only you and your florist will give a care about is going to make you flinch budget-wise, skip it.

Embassy Suites? I stay in those a lot and many of them have the atrium with waterway and koi. Very pretty.

DIY...

You can buy the lights and the fabric on ebay. No sewing necessary, use a stapler. Add a curtain pole and you're sorted.

I reckon you could do it for $150 at the most.

I'm not allowed to do it myself   The hotel has certain rules and this particlar woman does all of their work...bummer I know!  Could save a lot of cash!

after seeing the room, I kinda see why you did want to drape it. If it were me, I would do it. BUT again, it of course all boils down to how you will feel about it. Does the lady who does the decorating have any pictures of that exact room done up in a similar way?

No, she doesn't.  But she does do all the drapery for the hotel and lighting.  It really bumbs me out because IF I could do it myself, there is only a 2 hr window prior to the reception that I can decorate.  Which...2 hours prior to the reception, I'm getting married!  My FH says we'll just pay it because he knows how much I really really want it.  I'm trying to save costs other ways as well.  Do you know anyone who loves to make silk flowers for a decent price?  My flowers are fresh for my BM and they are only 40.00 each BUT if I can get them down to 20.00 each, that will save some $$.  Any other ideas on how to cut costs?

I have to rent white chairs for the wedding, if anyone knows any alternatives to renting that would be great!  The chairs are costing me 2.25 a day...which isn't much.  But I don't want my new in-laws to have to drop chairs back off the day AFTER the wedding.  LOL

That particular embassy suites is where my dad and step mom got married. they got married by the fountain, and had their reception there, too.

I like the ceiling drape more than the main table, but that's just me.

My head table is going to be a long table ( I hope).  Do you think if I just did the lights that it would be enough?  I mean, it's not like I'm going to sit there all night...perhaps I can save 200.00 by not having it behind the head table.  Hmm never thought of that!
