.... because I was the only one out there.

How embarrassing.

FF's coworker got hitched yesterday and as the night wound down the DJ called for all the single ladies to come to the dance floor. I waited and waited (hmm... I sense a theme) for anyone else to go out there first, until finally the bride who knows I'm "single" finally grabbed me by the arm and dragged me out there. Please note that I am not upset with her at all and she was not targeting me solely. Apparently there should have been some more single ladies at the reception but they were MIA for the bouquet toss.

Anyway, needless to say I got lots of "so your next..." and "what's the hold up honey?..." which I found really awkward since I don't actually know any of these people. HOWEVER - despite the tension in the air I think that having it so blatantly pointed out that we aren't married yet might have finally gotten things to click in FF's head! Unfortunately, he wasn't the only "single" guy up there for the garter toss.

So not a whole lot of point to this post ... I just knew you would understand.

Hahahaha, oh do I understand...we had a long run of weddings in the past few years and I caught the bouquet THREE times!  Including once when I just stood there and it hit me.  In my case, third time was the charm and FI proposed soon after!  But you can imagine the teasing and questions we got every time!

Wow that's rough! What is with people and weddings that makes them ask when you are getting married? Geesh. I'm sure it will happen soon though, your FF is definitely aware of it!

Aaahhhhhhh the dreaded bouquet toss! Apparently engaged girls are not off the hook and still "single" for the purposes of this horrible ritual, so I got to "try" to catch the bouquet twice this weekend. (I purposely did not catch it either time.)

Nikki, I feel so much empathy for you. I'd say laugh it off, take it as a good omen, and keep those beautiful flowers on your desk at work for the next week.

Oh geez that's embarassing. There's no two ways around that. I am definitely not doing a bouqeut or garter toss at my wedding. I remember being at a wedding many, many years ago, and I was so embarassed when they tried to herd me over (I refused) I think something must have clicked in your fiancé's head though. Hope it brings you some engagement good vibes!

You are a lot nicer than I am.  If a bride were to do that to me, I would be beyond upset.  How dare she??? What if you don’t want to get married…she’s just assuming that every woman in the world has this huge desire to get married and she put you on display.

Now you obviously want to get married but what a mean thing to do.  It’s one thing to run up there by yourself ready to take that bouquet and claim this year as yours…and a whole other to have someone drag you out there.  I’m convinced that once women get their rings and become a bride, they forget about all the embarrassment they had to go through when they were a LIW.

Sorry you can tell this is a sour subject for me LOL

The first in my group of friends knew how much people hated the bouquet and garter toss. So...the wedding planner suggested a little bribe. The bridal party went around whispering into the ears of all the young unmarrieds that there was a $100 attached to the bouquet/garter. Boy oh boy! I have never seen so many people dive for the bouquet & garter like that! The only frustrating part - the guests that caught the bouquet & garter were already married.

OMG I HATE THE BOUQUET!

Partially cus I'm pushin40.....I mean how many times can I actually catch that thing, plus the older I get the less single women are at these weddings!  It's always like ME, GRANDMA and a few 12 years olds!  Jeesh....

I admit: I hide at this point.......and so does SO (who is pushin50).  It's just way beyond ridiculous now!!

I feel for ya!

Wow, you are so easy going. I would have embarrassed myself by stomping my feet refusing to go step up.

I would have just tapped her on the shoulder and stuck out my hand. Why would she even throw it? I am pretty anti-bouquet toss, but if SO catches the garter this weekend, I might be forced to make an effort for the bouquet, only because I don't want him "garter dancing" with anyone but me!

LOL... good point. I don't know why she threw it, but I think it would have been hilarious if I had done what you described above.

pushin40: LOL, it's people like you hiding off somewhere that leave people like me on the dance floor by my lonesome! But you offer sage advice, and the next time the DJ calls for single ladies, I might just dive under the 10 top!

This is exactly why I'm vetoing the bouquet toss at our wedding.  We *might* do the thing where you give it to the couple that's been married the longest.  I refuse to drag people up there and make them try and catch a bouquet.  Some little girls love it, I know...but I once had my name announced ON THE LOUD SPEAKER to please come try and catch the bouquet.  I was horrified and vowed at that moment to never make someone else feel that way.
