I forgot to mention, this stone has "medium blue" fluorescence. For those who have always been curious, this picture was taken using sunlight as the only source of illumination. As you can see, fluorescence at this level has no visible effect.

Futique: I am glad you ultimately decided on going with this stone. I remember your post a week or so ago and you were at odds about what stone to purchase. This stone indeed looks geourgeous. You guys will have many many compliments on the stone once she is wearing it. Regina (my fiancee) honestly receives comments a couple times a week. Jontahan is also awesome to work with. Did you guys take these pictures or did Jonathan send you these? Really really unique pictures showing how your stone throws off light.. Congratulations Again...... -Josh Rioux Sitka, Alaska

I have to thank you for your feedback on my original post- your post really helped clinch it for me. I took the pics myself. FWIW- I have a BFA in photography.... I don't shoot professionally anymore, but still enjoy shooting when I get the chance.

I used a Sony DSC-F707 digital camera in manual macro mode. The camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, so there is quite a bit more information in the pics than what you see in this smaller format. The light is straight window light, courtesy of the 'large mass of incandescent gas' in the center of our solar system. The shadow on the right is from the lens of the camera, and the shadow on the left is from my hand.

It is stunning, indeed. What it the brilliance scope you provided us with? I'm keen to buy a diamond over the internet (as I live in the UK where things are bloody expensive) and I would love to get a diamond that threw so many colors. Short of the fabulous photography you displayed, how does one get this in "writing"? Goldenringlets |

I doubt you'd ever be able to get such a thing in writing, but you could certainly do business with a company that has a generous return policy. IE- if you get the stone but aren't happy with it, you can return it without issue.

Hey Richard- I just read sergy's article on green flash also. I think in the pictures above the green flash might be more prominent because of the angle that the diamond is sitting and the angle of the light source entering the diamond. The dispersion is from an angle which is not typically viewed (which is face up by the observer). I am making big assumptions, but this is what I gather reading the article. Do you think this might hold true why the dispersion is viewed in this manner and color vs. typical viewpoint of a diamond face up and lightsource direction from above? -Josh -josh

If you want the green flash you turn the green lights on. I don't know Josh, sounds reasonable, but your judgement might be impaired living up there in that frozen wasteland... Rich, Independent GG Appraiser |

FWIW- Out of the 10 or so pics I took that morning, 4 of them show the stone throwing a strong green flash. Interestingly, they are taken at different angles, and most of them are facing the stone much like a viewer would. I can post the pics for reference, but they aren't aesthetically pleasing.

Not the most pleasing images, but you can see what I mean. For the record, the 'setting' is the temporary one that GOG shipped the stone in. ![]()

Futique, I can't thank you enough for the kind words as it was a great pleasure to be of service to you during this chapter of your life. YOUR PICTURES ROCK!!! Even the last ones. I'm always looking for ways to demonstrate beauty in diamonds via the net and the pics you took speak volumes to the beauty of this stone in direct light conditions. I will be capturing this stuff on video too in our upcoming video tutorial series. While the pics are awesome our audience here isn't getting the full effect as that stone is MOVED. You know what I'm talking about. ![]() What is neat is that your stone has different features of beauty to display in ALL light conditions. I'd love to have that first picture as a poster in our store framed! Thanks again and congrats on the upcoming engagement, Rhino Rhino |
