 		Hi 'yall,

I'm considering buying an old diamond ring from a famiy friend, cut in the '40s. A jeweler roughed it as a si1 or 2, color approx. J, about 1 carat, and the cut is an old one, a "miner's cut".

Can anybody with credentials for estimating give me just a rough approximation of what the diamond itself might be worth, so I know where to top out on an offer?

 		It should be the responsibility of the seller to find out "what it's worth". It should not be up to you to "make an offer."
