Not exactly the usual destination, but we're planning to go to Denmark.

Since FI found out he's part Danish, he's really embraced Scandinavian culture and has been talking about going, so we thought it'd be nice to incorporate it as our honeymoon. But I'm also trying to talk him into splitting some time in London or Paris, since we're going to be out there anyway :)

Oh, this is similar our problem. FI seems to have been EVERYWHERE... while I, on the other hand, have only been out of the country once (to Egypt). So all of my big-dream-destinations like Greece, Italy, England, Japan... he'd already been to every one of them. All the traveling we've done together thus far has been to places one of the other of us have been, so one of us was always in "tour guide" mode.

We tossed around the Maldives, Iceland and South Africa... and finally landed on New Zealand. Since we we'd be going in their early Spring, I wanted some warmth thrown in, so we tossed in a stopover in Fiji on our way there (it shortens our first flight, too, so that's always nice after a long wedding weekend!).

Anyway, it's a new place for both of us, and I'm really looking forward to sharing that experience with him!

Bali! We are traveling all around the island and then heading to Gili T. (small island off of Bali) to learn how to scuba dive.

Jump and the net will appear.

Though I'm not engaged yet, I would love to honeymoon in the Galapagos Islands. They have relatively small cruises that are ideal for honeymoons. It would be amazing for me, but it is probably not for everyone.

Mauritius
This is because we're getting married in South Africa and it's not too far from there.

My other choices would have been:

Maldives
Santorini (Greece)
Great Barrier Reef (OZ)
Fiji

(as you can see I am into the beach theme)

We'd also like to go to Japan and stay in a "paper house".  Apologies I don't know what the proper name is for this, sorry if I offended.  But anyway, not for a honeymoon.

We're getting married this October but we're not honeymooning until end of May, beginning of June next year (due to the weather).

We're visiting friends in London, seeing paris for a couple of days, then off to Greece! Athens, Mykonos and the bulk of the trip on Santorini!

Funny enough friends of ours are on their honeymoon there right this very minute. Lucky!

We went to the French Polynesian Islands (Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora). It was definitely our dream honeymoon! Loved every minute of it there and hoping to go back for our 10th year anniversary but maybe to different islands to dive now that we are certified.

We're doing a mini-moon, 5 night cruise to Belize and Cozumel.

We had planned to do a full 2-week honeymoon in Hawaii next year for my 30th birthday/full honeymoon escape.  However, 2 of his best mates have since set wedding dates in the UK for June and August, so it's highly unlikely we could attend both of those and then get down to Hawaii for 2 weeks.  So now we're thinking of doing 2 weeks somewhere in Europe or elsewhere and tacking a wedding to the end of it.

I want to do somewhere really different, as I've been to most of Europe when I lived in the UK.  We never did the Greek isles, so that's a possibility.  Although, I would also love to go to Egypt or Mauritius.  NoelWR, or other savvy brides - do you know how long the flight is to Mauritius from London??

Love this thread...giving me all kinds of ideas.

We are currently discussing a cruise as you can see more places and not spend a ton of money on airfare.

My dream honeymoon is Fiji but it's completely out of our price range.

We're going to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks in October

It has some of the best beaches in the world, elephant orphanages, real jungle, safaris, more gemstones than most other countries on earth and is not very expensive. It's like the Maldives (which are pretty near by) but with more to do - FI and I aren't really beach people.

a direct flight is 12 hours.  we will be booking our honeymoon from SA as we expect it to be cheaper.  maybe even book the flights and hotel separately.  they are building a new Intercontinental on Mauritius which is supposed to open this October so I'm watching that.  I think we should go all out 5 Star on our honeymoon.  and then be incredibly broke after!  haha.  but SERIOUSLY, I so deserve it.

don't go to Egypt in the summer.  it is too bloody hot.  we went to Hurghada in June a few years ago and then did a day bus trip to Luxor and of course we were on the bus whose air conditioning broke down.  once you got off the bus and had the sun shining on your head you just want to get back on the bus or find shade.  we bought the shawls that the people there wear on their heads and wet them and put them on our own heads.  was the best idea we came up with during that trip.

Nothing too original here - but FI and I are going to Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We're definitely lazy beach people - so anywhere that's laid back and a beach is our paradise!

Who knows? I feel like it changes every week.

First, it was Costa Rica. Then I heard that very late October/early November is not the time to go due to the rainy season.

Then it was a two week eastern Med cruise, and I really wanted it to include Istanbul. The one we liked started in Barcelona and ended in Venice.

FI decided that the cruise would be too expensive with flights and excursions. But I was really excited about it!

So now I am still looking into Turkey, and maybe Thailand or something similiar. FI is looking at Costa Rica again. Sigh, hopefully we will make a decision soon.

Any recommendations for Thailand or something similiar? I need somewhere FI can relax, but I won't get bored too easily, which I have a tendency to do.

Bali!!  Amazing resorts at great prices... you have the beach, the mountains/valcanos, shopping, diving, surfing, great food, hiking, beach, temples, and elephants!... we went on our honeymoon in June and it was amazing... we can't wait to go back!

Musey, my sister and her husband went to NZ for their honeymoon 2 years ago.  They went before their wedding actually, because they were both in shows right afterwards.  They went for 3 weeks and they LOVED it.

We're going to QC.  We had originally planned a trip to Portugal but it wound up being too expensive.  QC is just far enough away (and different, culturally speaking) to feel like we're splurging, but it's so close -- only a 5 hour drive.

In my dream world, we'd be going to Hawaii, but it's SOOOO far from us (we live in the northeast).  Someday we'll make it to Hawaii, but probably not for a long time.  I'm hoping to go for our 5th anniversary or something like that.

Between the two of us, there are, like, 3 countries in the world + Antarctica that neither of us has been to. So given that + the fact that we're not American, so much of America is still 'exotic' to us + the fact that we really only had a few days to travel... we went to...

New Mexico! It was fabulous. We hiked. We ate. We went to hot springs. fab-o.

Personally, I think Sri Lanka or Morocco would have been my first picks otherwise.

If you're looking for ideas, some other great places you may not have thought of with great food, and even great beaches...how about: Malaysia? Viet Nam?

Musey, Iceland would have been awesome! What a country! Wowee. I did a week long trek there and just loved it. It would be a great place for a honeymoon.
