Hi!

I've finally listed my first wedding dress on ebay.  My question for those of you who have actually sold wedding dresses on ebay (fingers crossed!):  how exactly did you ship them to the winning buyer?  My skirt is HUGE and takes up quite a bit of space, so I can't even imagine what kind of box to use.

Of course, all this is preliminary and I hope that my dress finds a buyer, but I also want to be prepared should the story have a happy ending!

Thanks!

Also, forgot to mention that I am asking for $50 for shipping.  I think that won't begin to cover it, but it seemed like a reasonable amount.  The dress is pretty heavy and BULKY!

I've sold a few now, so I have experience shipping them :-).

I rolled the dress up as small as I could get it (it's going to wrinkle no matter what you do anyway), then went down to Uhaul and bought a box that looks like it would fit. You'll want to line the box with a plastic bag, or put the dress in a gown bag so the cardboard doesn't mess it up. I then squished the dress in as tight as I could and sealed it up. UPS does charge more if the box is big even if it doesn't weigh much, but the most I've had to pay for shipping was bout $20 for a HUGE dress, so $50 should be plenty.

Good luck!

You could go to staples, office depot, ups store, etc and get boxes as well. Make sure you don't get too big of a box as it does cost more if it is a big and/or awkward also go to UPS or USPS to get a better idea of how much it might cost to ship something. I would use 99548 (Alaska) and 10001 (NY) or (Florida) as my to and from zip codes since they are far apart to help you figure it out. good luck selling the dress!

I would LOVE to know where Mustang is shipping because I just sold a wedding dress that was nothing more than a sheath really and it was about $35.00 to ship with only $400 of insurance on it...

And please please please if you stuff it in a box make SURE that you write on the seams of the box " do not cut with a sharp object" or else you might have a problem on your hands.

i recently sold a dress.
i double layered the bag--placed the dress in a garment bag and rolled it up in a trash bag.

recycled USPS priority mail box (9x9x12?).
the weight was 3.5 lbs. and with insurance ($175) it came out to less than $20 going from CA to MN.

the best part was, i learned how to schedule a pick up.  so, my regular mailman picked it up from my place instead of me having to line up at the post office!

I sold both my dresses on ebay. I just brought them to the UPS store and let them deal with how to package them. After all, that's what they do! Neither cost more than $20 to ship.

Aw, thanks!  It's a Monique Lhuillier and I really do love it, but became convinced it did not suit me.  I posted about 6 photos of myself in it on ebay!

Krissie-

Just a question--did you end up selling your dress? I was scanning ebay and couldn't find it...
