I just got my ideal scope in the mail, thank you very much for the quick shipment, and I looked at the ideal cut CZ and then my e-ring diamond.
At first I thought they looked the same. Now that can't be because I know my diamond is not Ideal cut. Then I looked again and noticed mine wasn't as symmetrical and that there appears to be some light leakage through the culet.
The other thing I noticed is that the arrows are darket on mine. Is this because my diamond is not loose but in a setting? Or is this because I have a diamond with flourescence? (I know it has med to strong flour). Or is there another possible reason?
Maybe the light wasn't good enough. I'll try again, but any suggestions are welcome.

By the way - this thing is VERY COOL. (and I haven't used the word "cool" since my college days.)

Okay, I used better lighting this time. I am now blind.

I don't know the magnification on the ideal scope, but it's pretty good - I can see every inclusion in my diamond.

But, with better lighting it no longer appears darker pink than the CZ nor does there appear to be any light leakage anywhere. I guess it was just the setting and needed more light.

The one major difference I did note was that the center of mine is smaller than the CZ's. Could this be because my diamond is slightly smaller than the CZ?

I was pleasantly surprised by how my diamond looked under the ideal scope (besides the inclusions). I also looked at a different CZ and what a difference! There were no arrows at all! Face up I can barely tell the difference between the ideal cut CZ and the other CZ I have, but under the scope they're like night and day.

I also looked at a .25 diamond that is set in a ring. Under the scope the cut looked horrible - no symmetry at all. Now I know why I got it so cheap. (but I thought cut wasn't a major factor in price?)
Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Tanya

hi NY'er,

Arrows are darker or lighter depending on proportions. deeper stones tend to have less dark stars (which is why they get a lower HCA score for scimntillation).

The fluoro will not be causing any noticeable effect. if it is a problem do not use daylight or halogen light - use a fluoro tube - they have less UV light

And remeber that this is the only gemological instrument that doubles as an aid to celebration via drinkeness (it makes an excellent overly generous shot glass).
