I have been reading about the Yogo Montana sapphire and many sources say that Yogo sapphires have inherently more brilliance than a sapphire from Burma or Ceylon.  Does anyone know if this is accurate?  Since my hopefully-so-to-be fiance is from Montana, we thought that it would be very cool to have a Montana sapphire from my e-ring.

Anyone have any experience buying a Yogo?  I'm looking for 2+ karats and I'm having a hard time finding any in the size range.  Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm not an expert, but after reading your post I did some quick checking and I'm impressed with how pricy those Yogo sapphires are!

Found this 2.01 ct windowed gem on the web for $25,000, and eBay has an auction for a 2.05 beauty for $35,000 ("price reduced for quick sale!").

Wow!

I don't know anything about Montana sapphires, but I found these two on this website.

The Yogos do seem to have a price premium attached, and the stones do seem to be on the small side.

These people, Mt. Lily Gems, seem to have a straightforward, honest approach to Montana sapphires. You'll note that they have the Yogo gems and also some more reasonably priced ones from Helena, Montana. The Helena stones seem to be bigger, too! They have visited the Yogo mine.

I live in New Zealand, and I thought it would be cool to have an Antipodean sapphire for a ring, so I bought one. I did some comparison shopping for Australian sapphire, and that's how I found the Mt. Lily web site. While I was favorably impressed with Mt. Lily, I wound up going with an Australian miner/cutter who had more Aussie stones for me to choose from, and I emailed them and asked what they had in my price range and my desired color. This worked out very well, and you may want to give it a try with Mt. Lily.
