So after much searching for the setting of my dreams, I have decided to go with something simpler until I can save up the pennies for my dream halo to get custom made. Sigh. I wish my ring wasn't squishing my finger or I would just wait. Anyway, I decided to go with a solitaire setting for an EC. I want one that will sit flush with a wedding band, and fairly inexpensive, as I will be replacing it within the year. I can't seem to find one I like, and it's taking long enough that I have actually not been wearing my e-ring because it is just too wide, and I miss it a LOT. However! If someone can find me a setting that looks like Dani's, I would love you forever and I would be able to let go of my halo dream for now. |

If you are replacing the ring within a year, can you get a jeweler to shave down the band a bit so you can wear the ring until you find the setting you really want?

That's a good idea, except that my wedding band fits it - it's a very curvy shape, so either way I'd end up either without a ring, or having to buy a new one to fit with it. :/ I think I may end up ringless if I can't find anything.

I might be wrong but I don't think Dani's rings sit flush (unless she got a new setting). Mine do. I think part of it is b/c the band IS wider. Could you get it in a bigger size so it is more comfortable?

Hi Monkeypie! So sorry about your predicament! I am so flattered that you like my setting, but Tacori is right, my rings do not sit flush...there is a small gap between my rings that I have gotten used to (I am so bad about posting pics- I should really get on that)! Anyway, can you look into something like a PrecisionSet solitaire setting (I know they make their rings to sit flush). Its hard w/ EC's, b/c unless the setting is unusually high or a bit wider like Tacori's, you are going to have a gap if you plan on wearing your rings together. You can also think about getting a quote for something custom...I know you dont want to spend alot of $$$, but maybe something in WG just to hold you over till you can get your dream setting?

Thanks Tacori and Dani - I think I remember seeing that your ring isn't flush. I wonder if it would be hard to make a setting where the basket tapers? I emailed a local jeweler to see how much it would cost me to do such a thing...hopefully not a lot. I think that if I could find one I really liked then I could just forgo the halo, because I'd rather pay bills! ![]() I really don't want a wide band, even 6mm, because that is the issue I am having with my current setting. I have chubby baby hands and I really think I need to go with something narrow.

I still don't see why you couldn't have them both shaved down in the inside. This will probably be the most cost effective route.

Because it isn't that they are too tight, it's that they are too WIDE. I have pretty short fingers, and the width of band and ring is just too much for my chubby little hands.

To be cost effective and to get the setting of your dreams quickly, I would probably just wear them on separate hands even if the wedding band looks goofy due to the curve. Otherwise, you could get a cheapo $50 wg band to wear on your opposite hand. Resetting is just going to cost a lot of money and if you want to change to something else in the future I'd save as much as you can with metal prices going the way they are.

As much as I know this is good logic, I REALLY hate the way my wedding band looks alone. Plus I have the first ring DH ever gave me, our first Xmas together, on my right hand. So I'd have to be without one, and while I know that sounds horrendously bratty (ooohh, I may be regressing to child years right now), I just want something I can wear now. Maybe I'll just wear the bands together if I am going out, and otherwise forgo the engagement ring. I really like the Harry Winston-esque solitaires, so if I spot one that won't kill our payday I'll go for it...otherwise maybe I can just get myself to wait ![]() On an unrelated note, one of the reasons I wanted a solitaire was because I lovelovelove the Skye and I'd kill to have one

My basket tapers. But it is also 6 mm. I think my stone is around 8 mm long. Could you set it east-west until you can have a custom one made?

I totally understand that it's not always easy to do the logical thing... Anyways, I don't think you are going to be able to get a cheap setting that has a basket that will also allow a band to sit flush. However, there are plenty of cheap settings out there that don't have baskets (i.e. basic four prong settings) that sit a little higher that will allow a band to sit flush or nearly flush. Here is one that is only $250 in WG: http://www.jamesallen.com/products/item_57-1904_build.asp?module=setting

That's actually a good idea...maybe instead of looking for a basket I will just go with a prong setting. It will be easier to pop in a gemstone later if I wanted to as well. *plots for a pink spinel already* Tacori, I LOVE the wider bands, and that is how I ended up with what I have - I liked the finger coverage and how sturdy it felt. But now it is coming back to bite me in the butt. It always cut into my finger a bit from the width, but I just sort of brushed it off. I cannot tell you how many times I have wished I had skinnier fingers. Lol.
