So, since we got engaged in Central Park, and I'm absolutely in love with the city, our table names will be either names of places in Central Park, or locations in NYC. FI and I can't decide what we'd rather use, so I wanted to get some input from you ladies? Our wedding colors are green, black, and white, and I'll be using green apples as some accents in our lovely little converted barn (yes, so far from the city, I know!) So, if I may ask, can you put on your thinking caps and give me some ideas?

Well there really aren't places in Central Park that you can mention, unless its neighboring restaurants which most people won't understand. How about landmarks? For example, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, etc. Or is that too cheesy?

We're doing a NYC theme too...I stole my idea from a knottie. We're using streets and we went and took photos of the actual street signs to use as the "numbers."

There are some places in Central Park that you could name tables after. Like Sheep's Meadow, Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace, Belvedre Castle, Conservatory Gardens, Cherry Hill, Turtle Pond...those are just the ones off the top of my head. Here's the central park website http://www.centralpark.com/pages/attractions.html they have a whole list of "attractions"

I agree that most people probably won't recognize the places that are actually in Central Park unless they're pretty familiar with the city - Bethesda Fountain, Strawberry Fields, Sheap Meadow, etc. If your guests are very familiar with NYC, I say go for it. If they're not, you might want to stick to landmarks they will recognize so they understand the theme. There are plenty to choose from - Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Square, Wall Street, Battery Park, China Town, etc. (If they're REALLY familiar with the city, you could even do something more off the wall, like subway routes.)

Since we're located in suburban MD, I don't know that everyone would actually be too familiar. We got engaged on Bow Bridge, and I was talking to my MOH, who did a similar thing with table names, but for Wildwood, NJ (they have a vacay home there) and she said she went on the guideline of places they had been together. So, for us, it would be: Bow Bridge, Angels of the Waters Fountain, The Terrace, Sheep Meadow, Strawberry Fields, Grand Army Plaza – then switch it up and do the Top of the Rock (or Rockefeller Center), 5th Ave, Little Italy, Times Square Since it's part of our theme, just a subtle part, I think I want to include the more "commercial" places, mainly because people will actually recognize them, too.

I think to help with the familiarity issue, on each table name you could write a small paragraph about the significance of each place. Or what each place is. If I attended a wedding and didn't recognize the table names I would still think it was a nice personal touch since I knew it must be personal to the bride and groom.

Great idea about the story cards... love it! I'll have to write that one down in my planner!
