Man. . . oh man. It's been a while lovelies.  Things were in-sane. Innnnnnnsane!

My husband graduated on a Wednesday, we had our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner for our vow renewal on the Friday, the renewal on the Saturday, and we were out of our apartment and in a Penske truck on the Tuesday after.  All of that within a week.

So, here we are in Boston.  And it's fantastic.  We found a summer sublet which had the choice to renew for the year (which we are definitely taking advantage of. I don't want to move again unless we have movers and a mortgage.  We'll stay put for now).  It's a tiny space, but an awesome space.  A few doors down from the public garden in gorgeous Back Bay.  DH started his job on Monday and is happy with it.  He's a California boy born and raised, so that was a big thing for him.  If he likes his job, he's happier anywhere (financial industries are hard-core lifestyle types of jobs.  So, liking his job is a big part of him being happy).

I'm incredibly happy here for more reasons than I can even get into.  Being back east has been a dream for me since my parents moved the family to California the summer before I started high school.  It feels good to be back.  I grew up on the east coast and have felt a sort of depression about not being back east for years (ok. . not a sort of depression.  A deep depression. I'll be honest).  Now that I'm here, I feel like a fog has been lifted.  The weather is beautiful (give me a thunderstorm anyday.  As long as I don't have to drive in it, let it pour!) and the people are great.  They are reserved and over-all more conservative than SoCal.  And that's what I grew up with.  So, for me, it's like being home.  I'm so happy here.  It's only been two weeks and I know at this point, that it's still fantasy-land, but I really can see us staying here and DH, now that's he's calmed down (he doesn't deal with change well), feels the same.

It's great to be within walking distance to anything I need.  I think that's the thing I love the most.  Not having to rely on my car.  Living in a great neighborhood ain't a bad thing either ;-)

The trip was great too.  We drove a 16' Penske truck with the three cats.  Haha.  There is something called Rescue Remedy.  It's at Whole Foods and comes in a little yellow box in the herbal remedy section.  It calms the kitties down.  Just the smell.  I would put some on their paws and they'd lick a lil and badabing. .  Night night time! We did have some inclement weather issues.  Sandstorm in Nevada, snowstorm in Colorado (yes. snowstorm. in June). Haha. Tornado warning in Nebraska, and thunderstorms in upstate NY.  Phew! But, we took our time, drove safely, stopped when we were tired or when the weather was too much to handle. :-) If anyone needs cross-country driving tips, let me know.

I just wanted to thank everyone for all of your help in deciding where to go.  Boston wins hand-down for us!

YAY Cello!!! I'm so happy that the vow renewal went well and that you and DH made it safe and sound to Boston!!! And it sounds like you're both really, really happy with the move, so I'm excited for you!!!

What an exciting week to move!! With the Celtics' win last night and such beautiful weather :) I literally JUST got back from taking a walk through the public garden and common about 3 minutes ago. It was so nice that I figured I should spend my lunch break outside.

Again, congrats on the move and I hope you stay on Cloud 9! It sounds like your apartment is in a fantastic location--enjoy it!!

Makes me wonder if Shigidigi is here now apartment hunting all over the place. :)

Cello I am so happy for you!! Congrats on getting married and congrats on surviving the move! Thanks for the tips about the Whole Foods kitty remedy- it sounds a lot like Feliway and I will be sure to buy some to help out ours when we follow your footsteps to Mass!

Did your kitties have any side effects? How long did it take you? And how can you afford to live in the Back Bay! Just kidding (I am so jealous!) You did it!! And now I will rely on you to be my inspiration so I can do the same thing!

When are you gonna show off some wedding photos? I am dying to see them!

Yay! cellosweet! I'm so happy to hear you are settling in so nicely. I feel like I could have written some of your post: I'm in CA now and I am dying to get back east. FI is CA boy, all the way and has never left San Diego. I lived here as a child but we moved to North. Cal and then on to NC. My parents and sis are in VA.

Oh how I miss the mid-atlantic region! But I'll go anywhere east. Boston sounds terrific. Anyway, I'm so glad your DH is happy and also settling in.

Keep us posted!

Hi everyone :-)
Thanks for all of the well-wishes and welcomes.  Boston is great :-)

We live in Back Bay because we are frugal as heck and live in a tiny apartment.  Haha. We rather live in something tiny in a neighborhood that has everything we need, is safe, and is close to the financial district for DH than to live in something bigger further out.  We found a really sick deal.  Got a summer sublet with a choice to renew.  Best deal ever.  :-) We love the apartment because to us, it's a sacrifice.  We had a lovely two story condo back in California, but we weren't happy.  This tiny little space is a haven.  It's happiness wrapped up in simplicity.  It has everything we need, plus lots of extras that are luxuries (who says you can't have your luxuries in a small space? pfft!).  And for us it means saving to buy and buying means starting a family.  So. . it's all good :-)

Rescue Remedy is awesome. No side effects and really effective. :-) It took us 4 days, plus a morning.  On the first day, we went from Simi Valley (stayed with my parents the last night) to Richfield, UT.  The second day we went from Richfield UT to Fort Morgan, CO.  Third day went from Fort Morgan, CO to Joliet IL (BIIIG day!).  Fourth Day went from Joliet, IL to Buffalo, NY.  The last morning we went from Buffalo to Boston and arrived by noon :-)   There is an atlas that was really helpful and going on AAA, they have a trip tracker thing that gives a great route.  Having a blackberry curve with telenav doesn't hurt either ;-)  Ask away if you need help.

I'll post wedding photos tomorrow.  No pro-shots yet, just some table-camera ones (thank goodness I have nutso friends. They were AWESOME with the cameras on the tables) and some random ones from people's personal cameras.  It's my first day having internet since we moved in (been almost two weeks) so I have major things to go through, not to mention resume stuff.  Tomorrow ;-) Be on the lookout.

Welcome!  I am also a transplant (Texas to Boston) so I can attest that while it is a bit of a shock the system, Boston is a fabulous city and people are much friendlier and open than the stereotypes would suggest.  I hope y'all have a wonderful summer!!

Yayayayayayaya cellosweet!!!  Boston could use a sweet lovin' soul like you.

You sound so much happier than when you were on our coast.  Although I have my own personal pain that makes me loathe Boston (or rather, the loathsome soul near Boston), it has now been redeemed in my eyes...and my heart.

I'm so happy for you

I'm happy to hear everything's going so well, and the trip was relatively painless. Looking forward to seeing pics of your renewal!

Cello, I am SOOOOO happy for you (and so jealous, as you know)!
I can't wait to share my same story in the future. And I am so glad that you are happy...I totally know what you mean about the depression thing. It's a new start for you, and so far it sounds WONDERFUL!
