However, once one is educated on diamond quality, I would never purposely purchase a stone that was not at least very good in polish and symmetry. But sure, it could be pretty...just not as nice as one that is better! ~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~

Indira-London Cut Rock Total Posts: 307 Last Post: 9/14/2009 Member Since: 6/17/2008	Assuming that it is a round brilliant diamond that you are talking about then the difference between the top grades of symmetry is very small and it is rarely possible to detect the difference to the untrained eye without magnification. Where I would advise that you make no compromise is on the proportions or cut quality grades (e.g. Excellent for GIA, Very Good for HRD, 0 or 1 for AGS) as the different grades for cut quality have a much more noticeable impact on sparkle. Sometimes, practical considerations such as the resulting carat weight or position of inclusions or cost of re-polishing can prevent a diamond being re-polished to achieve a better symmetry grade if it already has a top cut grade. Can you elaborate? With what you have posted it could be a very bright diamond. Depending on minor facets it could receive high marks in AGS and GIA cut grading, but the girdle running to thick will knock it down a grade in both metrics (as you indicated with the VG from GIA).
