I've been browsing engagement rings setting with my girlfriend and she really likes the Hearts on Fire Identity Knife Edge Solitaire. I'm fine with the setting but I'm not yet convinced that a HoF diamond is worth its high premium. I've seen pretty reasonable "Ideal" stones from several sites, Blue Nile, GOG, and Whiteflash and was wondering whether it's possible (or even advisable) to purchase a diamond through the internet and then have it set on HoF ring that I'd probably have to purchase through a B&M. Does HoF even allow that sort of thing? Please help. Thanks.

Date: 6/3/2008 4:48:06 PM I would totally buy a stone through WF, GOG or the other online vendors. Actually my friend has a HOF stone and mine sparkles just as much as her's and I bought it from WF. WF has beautiful ACA stones and you probably will saw a few bucks. You can buy HOF settings by themselves. A few people here have done it.

I checked with a few jewelery stores when I was looking for my setting. I was told something different at each store. One jeweler told me that solitaire settings definitely could not be purchased without a HOF diamond. One jeweler told me that I could purchase whatever was in stock, but I couldn't order from the catalog without a HOF stone. One jeweler told me that they could get whatever I wanted - in stock or catalog order - without a HOF stone. I had my own WF ACA stone, so I was only looking for a setting. I have a HOF 5-stone ring that I wear on my right hand. My WF ACA ring sparkles every bit as much as my HOF ring. In fact, one of the jewelers asked why I was concerned about being able to purchase a HOF setting since my center stone was a HOF (he initially mistook my ACA for a HOF!).

I have a WF ACA set in a HOF semimount. I think you need to check with your jeweler to make sure they/HOF will do it. My ACA was also mistaken for a HOF diamond

Cool, thanks for all your input! Coincidentally, I'm actually considering a ACA stone right now from WF. Here is the link: http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-560213.htm It's certainly a bit pricey so I'm thinking real hard about it! I know I can cut the color and clarify somewhat to save a bit, but not sure what is the lowest I should go. I'm concerned that going to H and below still start to have a noticeable tint of yellow and I'd rather not have that. Do any of you mind sharing your thoughts on this stone as well as the specs on your ACAs and whether any color shows? Thanks a bunch!
