Hi there, this is my first post so please be nice!! I got engaged a few months ago and my fiance and I designed the ring we want. However the jeweller we went to wasnt really helpful and it wasnt till it was too late that I now realise that im not happy with the ring. Basically I have a 0.8ct princess cut diamond with 2 x .38 trillions (one on each side). The problem is (and I cant believe the jeweller didnt tell us this before we gave him the go ahead) that the side of the trillions that faces the middle stone is slightly longer than the middle stone (by about 2mm). Hence the middle stone looks smaller than the trillions ![]() The jeweller has since moved interstate and we dont have contact with him. Secondly, my fiance, as gorgeous as he is, doesnt see that there's a problem with the ring, where as (and all you girls will agree).. I want my engagement ring to look perfect. We dont really have another few thousand dollars to go buy a new bigger middle stone, our wedding is costing us heaps and we need to focus on that. Plus I would feel rude to 'exchange' the middle stone for a bigger one.. and I don't even know if you can do that. So I'm asking for tips or ideas that I can do to try and fix it. Would bagettes or some small stone look nice around the princess cut, sort of like a pave ring but then with the trillions still on each side? Any other tips? Please help!! Thanks |

Thanks Julie N .. that looks great but its not what I'm after. I still want the trillions on the side of mine because thats what we decided on together when we got engaged, so its the sentiment of those stones that I want to keep. What about 'straight' (not tapered) bagettes or some smallish stones surrounding my middle stone, to give the effect of the middle stone being bigger than the trillions? Thoughts??

You probably could do some kind of halo setting, but it may be hard to reuse the sidestones. I'll look for some examples. Welcome to PS!

Okay, you might be able to have a ring designed like this that would allow your trillions to be set down where the split shank is on the sides. http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/106PP1/30/ I really think that jeweler was at fault, though, for putting trillions that were too big with your center stone. I love this setting for a princess: http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/70PP1/84/

OK, it might be hard to envision because these stones are rounds and pears, but here is a Tacori that has a halo center and simple pear sides with no halo. A design like that would build up your center stone and make the trillions more in proportiion to it.![]()

Oh they're both so pretty!!! Thans so much for your help diamondseeker.. the first setting would be perfect if I could get it to work, id be more than happy with that. Its really upsetting. We had no idea. The jeweller got recommended to us and he just was not helpful at all. At first he was all like 'yes these would look perfect in the setting', then when he made up the ring there were gaps in between the stones which he said was the best he could do, then he changed it to the way it is now and made a strange comment about us not being able to afford anything bigger... HELLO if he had told us in the first place that it wasn't going to turn out we would have changed the design all together. And its so hard because when I talk to my fiance about it i seem so ungrateful or picky because i want something 'bigger and blingier'.. Thanks again... In the meantime if anyone else has any ideas please let me know..

Oh,I didn't know you wanted to keep the trillions. I think the only thing you can do is put a halo around the princess.

This is a better photo of what I was talking about, with trillions replacing the baguettes. This is from http://www.mkdandj.com/collection/category.php?id=2. Hope you can get everything worked out to your satisfaction! ![]()

Sydney, one of the purposes of PS is to inform other consumers of which vendors are good and which aren't. I think this jeweler has been unfair to you - if you're not comfortable thats completely fine, but it will be helpful to future people considering buying from this store to know the name? Again, as I said if you don't want to please do not feel pressured or anything!
