I have them all ready to go to the printer (the envelopes) and umm.... that was several weeks ago (actually just before our tasting).

Wedding is Sept. 21. Should I send them um... well. This week, I guess.
Or just not, and wait for the invites?

You're still 4 months out so I don't see any reason not to (esp if you've already bought the STDs).  You still have at least 2 mos before the invites go out & that's plenty of time in between mailings.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I saw the title, and thought of the other STD. And then realized what you were ACTUALLY talking about and started laughing hysterically.

I'd go ahead and send it out asap.

Hmm. I vote send them.

You give people proper notice to plan and yet you can wait to send the invites at 6 weeks before. And people have to make up their mind more quickly on the reply rather than losing it because the reply date is months away. Plus, its always better not to have an addressing run-thru prior to the real deal.

If you just send invites I personally feel that more notice is needed, or else you end up making people that want to come feel bad or inconvenienced if they get their first official notice only weeks away from the event.

DARN IT. I was hoping you all would tell me not to. LOL.

I told John and he looks sheepish and says, "You know its bad if my mother is asking. The professional procrasinator."

Okay. I'll send them. Now I have to find a printer for the envelopes.

Or... hand address them. Hand. Address. Them. Yikes.

I agree that you should send them out. You'll feel better once they're out. Really.

As for the envelopes...maybe sticker address labels? I think I've seen some from Martha Stewart (or similar) that were more decorative that the typical office supply type. If you have a printer at home you should be able to download the template, mail merge your addresses, and be done with it.

Maybe?

I'd say don't bother with the save-the-dates. We didn't send any because we realized that everyone we were planning on inviting already knew the wedding date, anyway, so it wasn't necessary.

We sent our wedding invitations out about ten weeks prior to the event. We're marrying on a holiday, so we sent them out a bit earlier than standard, and it's been working out just fine.

I think since they're paid for, you might as well send them out.  It's not bad AT ALL to hand address the envelopes either.  We tried clear labels for our save the dates (just a few, as a trial) and they looked awful.  It reminded me of scotch tape -- not good.  We did our save the dates on our printer, which worked well, but when it came to the invitations, we couldn't get the printer to cooperate.  We ended up hand writing our invitations, which was fine.  Just write neatly.

even if you wind up having to hand address them, i maintain that these kinds of tedious wedding details are the reason why the bridesmaid tradition still lingers!

I'm glad you like the label idea, Gypsy! We used the regular old office max ones on our STD postcards. They looked fine, did the trick, and certainly looked better than my handwriting! (Trust me, I tried to hand address a few and they looked AWFUL. Tidy white label with post-office-appreciated times new roman? perfection by comparison.)

We don't really send them out over here so I was going to say don't bother sending them. It sounds like a lot of work to do when the invites are going out soon anyway.

Thank you everyone. I could hand address. My handwriting is neat. I wouldn't get any help with it though as John's handwriting is chicken scratch, my mom has tension tremors, and my MOH (and only attendant) is in the middle of moving to Mississippi now.

I think plain white labels are fine. I know its terrible to say this... but I'm really just going to send them to John's family. And they are much less stuffy and formal and critical than my family. So I'm okay with it. Just plain white from Office Depot-- Probably use Garamond as the font, just cause I'm partial to it. Or Lucinda.

Oh. And as a result. John could do them. Instead of me. .

I was thinking about sending the invites out at ten weeks as well, like you Haven. Probably wil.

YAY!
