For those who color and chemically straighten your hair. Any issues with doing both? My hair is very curly and I'm tired of spending so much time blowing it straight and using my Chi. My arms and hands actually hurt by the time I'm done!

Hi Diamond*Quest,

Sorry to say I don't do both (will be soon possibly), but have friends who do. It's not a problem, as long as you let the salon (where you are straightening) know. They will adjust their formulas accordingly. Hayato is great, very reasonably priced, and is highly recommended. If your hair is too damaged etc for the process, they will let you know. I can also recommend places in Boston for you to do it. Hope that helps!

The straightening must be done first.  It strips color from your hair, so coloring first would be a waste.  I had the japanese thermal done (liscio), which is way better for your hair than other formulations.

It is wise to have the same person/salon do both processes, as they can be quite damaging to the hair and it's best if they know exactly what has been done to your hair (and with what brands) previously.  I actually had a deep conditioning treatment a week before the thermal, then colored my hair a few weeks later.  My hair felt like silk.  It was great.

I straighten my hair and color it. I had the straightening down first - japanese thermal.

Definitely go to the best place you can find - pay the extra money - it's worth it. I've seen people get their hair fried by trying to go cheap. If you're in the SF Bay area see Dax and Lindsey, they're absolutely amazing.

If you lighten your hair you might have to let it grow out first. I know lightening it can cause problems.

I can't agree with that more some colours have metallic bases that can react really badly with other chemicals (I have had this happen IRL it is not pleasant) plus other things but if your hairdresser has the information then they can advise further.
