Hi everyone,

I just purchased thid huge 5.045 blue diamond rough the other day. I am a fancy diamond collector and didn't think twice that this was entirely natural and untreated. One of my trusted diamond partners looked at the pic and wasn't sure. Please let me know what you think.

My thoughts are:

- I have never seen a treated blue in this color.

- Referring to fancydiamonds.net, they have a bluish-green that looks the same color exactly that is of course untreated

- Who color treats rough diamonds?

I really look forward to your expert advice, please let me know!

Doesn't look as greasy (sorry I can't think of the right word!) as the rough diamonds I have seen do. Odd that someone would just sell that as rough unless you are a cutter?

I'd get it appraised ASAP. Most of us here are consumers...

I kind of like it. It reminds me of old bottle glass that has been tumbled in a creek or river. Sorry old childhood memories.

BTW, Garry decided to stay away from the inner workings of rough buying.

I do like the notion of working the whole system backwards though.

Smart move on you.....
On the other hand..., if you want to work the whole chain..., you could (I think) work with a "trusted" Diamond vendor (who cuts Diamonds) by having them pick a rough Diamond that could fall into the range you want and go through the whole process..., there is a little gamble involved..., but that might be a bit fun!!
