Are there any traditions, dos/don'ts for what to wear to your bridal shower? My FI's family wants to throw me one in the next couple of months (date isn't set yet), but I'm thinking I might go hit the memorial day sales to see if I can find something for it. The question is what do I get? Do I shoot for something bridey? Maybe a cute knee-length dress with a mostly white pattern? Logic says nothing black/depressing, I know that much. I've never been to a bridal shower to know what the norm is! Help!

I struggled with this a bit!  I have 3 showers.  One will be an outdoor BBQ with my parents' friends in a big tent; the other will be a small shower with my girlfriends in a condo party room; and the other will be with my dad's side of the family in the church hall.

I want to look snazzy at all 3 without being overdressed.  I got a really cute Nanette Lepore sundress for the shower with my girlfriends, just because I want to look cute and girly for that shower.  It may be a bit over the top (I should post photos) - it's kind of bright orange and purple with a keyhole neckline, but my girlfriends are into fashion and I think that it will be just fine for that shower.

For the BBQ shower, I want to look snazzy but more casual since it is a BBQ.  But it's on a family friend's large estate, with a big tent, so I don't want to wear jeans or capris.  I got a really cute white linen skirt (kind of swingy, and knee-length) and I'm wearing a multicolor Tory Burch sleeveless tank.  I need to get some cute wedges to go with it.

For the church hall shower, I really don't know.  My family is pretty down home, casual.  I think a sun dress would be too much.  I may just wear the linen skirt again with a more casual top, but I haven't decided.  There was a cute Tommy Hilfiger white linen dress that I saw at the store that could work.

I would definitely take advantage of the Memorial Day sales if I were you!!

Gosh, I guess it would depend on where they are having the shower for you. But I think getting a cute little dress that comes to the knees would be perfect!

I think a nice, cotton summer dress will be perfect.  It is not too formal, but still attractive and come in lots of "uplifting" colors.  I wouldn't wear an all white dress, that might be a bit much.

Something that screams, "I look gorgeous, but didn't try to." Like Brazen said, pretty cotton dress. You could do a floral print or a solid summer color. Just be comfortable and wear a great pair of shoes!

Hi!  My shower is going to be a backyard BBQ-type thing too, and I think I'm going to wear this dress...

I was wondering the exact same thing about a week ago!  My shower is next weekend (not a surprise).  I think it definitely depends on the location of the shower... Think about what you would wear if you were going to another family function at the location/with the guests.  I am wearing a strapless vineyard vines sun dress (cotton, pink and green starfish pattern).  I just hope it gets warmer!  I think a sun dress or skirt and top is always appropriate.   As a guest to my first baby shower I made the mistake of wearing cute jeans, heels and a nice top.  Everyone was in dresses and skirts and I felt totally out of place - learned my lesson for the next one!!

I'm not a BIW, but I just wanted to say that I love this dress. I say get the pink! You're the bride so you should be the most noticeable

ETA: sorry, I meant to address this to KaraSue. But on the topic of what to wear to the shower, I threw shower for a friend back in April. She wore a really cute baby doll dress that was still conservative...if that makes sense lol.

I'm wearing tea-length dresses to my two showers. They're both white with colored patterns, one has a black toile pattern, and the other has an artsy flower pattern. The first shower is in a friend's home, and the second is in a restaurant for brunch.

Thanks, ladies! I definitely think I'll go with a summery dress if I can find one. I scoured the sales at the mall yesterday, and every single thing I found that I liked a) didn't fit, b) wasn't available in the size that WOULD fit, or c) was the last one and was damaged beyond my ability to repair since I don't have a sewing machine. Super frustrating
