Long-time lurker and now my first post! I have recently found this site and would like some help understanding the difference between 2 stones and their respective HCA scores. Stone #1 60.2 depth 57 table 35 crown 40.6 pav 0.8 HCA - ex, ex, ex, ex Stone #2 61.7 depth 55 table 35 crown 40.8 pav 1.5 HCA - ex, ex, ex, vg What kinds of differences can I expect to see in an HCA of .8 vs. 1.5? Both fall into the AGS ideal category. I have been lurking on this site for a while, and I feel like a sponge trying to soak up all this info. Thanks so much for your help!

The HCA is only meant to be used as a tool to weed out bad performers Anything with a score under 2 is usually a good candidate to be considered further and tools like ASET's idealscope images and Sarins etc come into play :) __________________________________________________________ ![]() Sometimes if your really lucky all your dreams do come true ............... |

Visually, would I see anything different from an HCA of .8 vs. 1.5? I think I read somewhere on here than an HCA of less than 1 could reduce the contrast of the arrows (or something like that)?

I am not sure you would see a difference..... my diamond falls totally outside of the "ideal" advisor range but is a GIA excellent cut diamond and has just amazing sparkle, crispness and beauty. Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on the cut advisor between those two. My understanding is it just weeds out bad stones when you can't see them for yourself. AGS ideal cut will look amazing soooo.... you would be doing well with either if they are both eye clean and what you like!

Date: 5/23/2008 10:34:28 AM As mentioned, the HCA is intended Purely as a tool to help discard diamonds which may be bad performers based purely on the numbers. Once you have narrowed it down to a couple choices with an acceptable HCA score, it really doesn't have much more use. From here, you either need ASET or IS images or a trusted vendor to be your "eyes" and assess them in person for you (or both ideally!).
