Sorry for adding to the registry posts, it's just on my mind because of that. I did a search and looks like before everyone said 3, but I thought I'd ask again and see for everyone currently around. That was back in 2002, if I had it to do all over again I would have chosen a different department store I suppose, that wouldn't have gone out of business. I still have gift cards for MF that we cannot use. ETA: we did receive almost all the items we registered for, mostly our place settings and other pieces, so I am really not complaining! I wanted cookware from one place (Williams-Sonoma), dishes from another (Pottery Barn), and home accessories from a third (Crate&Barrel). The C&B one is a little unnecessary maybe, it's mostly just for nice kitchen accessories that aren't as expensive as Williams-Sonoma (although surprisingly, the difference--in most cases--is pretty teeny). The fourth is because one of FI's groomsmen asked why we were registered at only really expensive places. So we might add a cheapy store like BBB.

The store owner takes a setting of china that a couple registers for and places it on a large dining room table in the middle of the store and locals can come in and see the place setting that a couple registers for and purchase one if they choose. It's basically for the older ladies who don't want to drive 30 minutes to the largest city nearby to buy a gift... So, all in all, I guess we are registered at 4 places...

Mom really wanted us to register at a department store in the area where our family is located, so that's it. Their online registry is kind of a PITA, so I'm not putting anything else on it. Our BB&B registry is our "main" registry. We have all of our crystal drinkware on there, as we thought the 20% coupons could come in handy. We also have kitchen appliances, cooking utensils, bakeware, and regular ol' registry stuff on there. We are registered at Pottery Barn for their bedding and towels. We also have registred for a few decorative pieces, and for our everyday drinkware and some party serveware. Handbags always fit!

But, we got married in my mother's home town, and so many of my cousins and my grandmother's friends went to the local china shop looking for my registry that they called us up and said I had to come register there as well.

I was going to register with Selfridges as well, but they have this system where they give you a list of their vendors and then go go to the websites, track down the items you like, then go to the store and they put a list together for you. It's a bit too much hassle for me!

FI is hesitant about having 4, though. I'm thinking maybe keep the china on Amazon, but also add some settings of it to Macys. That way we cover more ground, and we can still keep the total # of place settings within our target range. China is on two of these registries, and so is silver (Dillards lets you break up sets, a friend bought me a fork, sooo exciting), it means checking around and knocking off certain items, but I hope it makes life easier for folks. Clio, are you from Tennessee? I had to do the local china shop too because everyone went there to see my china. Local traditions die hard.

Nothing was broken or chipped - amazingly - I say this because each place setting was packaged pretty poorly. One small sheet of bubble wrap around each piece - and some dishes weren't even wrapped with anything but a single piece of plastic (non-protective)... Also, my china is Wedgwood Nantucket. I noticed that every single piece that I received has a Wedgwood stamp on the bottom. But one teacup has an older Wedgwood stamp and it's also discolored. Also, one dinner plate was very scratched up - almost as if a steak knife had scratched it up. I don't think it will be a problem to exchange these two items - but I was wondering if anyone else had any problems - however minor they may be - with Dillard's?

It still had all the "check-off" functions so I could see what was gone and what was remaining.

The bulk of my registry was there, and everything we got was packed SO well that we had to find a place that could take the packing peanuts from us because every single box was absolutely overflowing with them. If the teacup is old, I would exchange it. They shouldn't give you any trouble on that at all. The one problem I did have with Dillards was kind of funny.... I was opening about 20 boxes one night. One of them had a card with names I didn't recognize... not all that weird, it was a big wedding... but then I opened the box of china and realized it wasn't MINE! Then I looked back at the slip and saw I had been sent another bride's gift! I was able to contact the warehouse and get it straightened out, and I'm pretty sure she got mine... everything was right except the outside shipping labels. I received a box about a month later that should have arrived sooner, and I'm pretty sure that was what went to her as it was the only thing unaccounted for at that point. Their online registry is definitely clunky... I hate how it never lets you remove anything... but I definitely appreciated full information on the purchaser list and the way it lets you split things up, like buying a cup and saucer from a place setting.
